Any MacBook Pro Owners here? Brightness TFT Settings Question

Hi all.......

Made the switch from PC to Mac and have to say using the Mac feels so much smoother, especially when carrying out the simplest tasks. But the simplest things to me arn't always clear as I've been using Windows since 1995ish! So you expect the longwinded process of renaming a folder in Windows to be similar on MacOSX but it appears to be much simpler than that on Mac! :)

Anyway the brightness settings...... What level do you have it on for image editing on your Mac? Mine is set 4 from the highest? Sounds like a basic/silly question here but just want to get it right? My Viewsonic TFT on my pc was is spot on.

Would like to mirror someones settings if possible? Also color profiles, calibration settings, can anyone help me out if I could request your settings. Its a matte finish not a glossy and it runs in 1920x1200.

Is it wise to keep the setting "Automatically adjust brightness as ambient light changes" ticked? or best to leave it unticked?

Thanks if you can help and apologies for the long read......

You need to set run the monitor calibration tool and set your gamma to 2.2 instead of 1.8 I think. Mac's come configured for print not web. As for brightness I leave mine on auto.

Just the expert I was after, tbh hoping you would reply! :)

Excuse my ignorance here mate but not having much Mac experience, where would I got for this Monitor calibration tool, or is it one of those devices I need to buy?

My adobe gamma settings, where would I go to change this on a Mac? I know on a pc there was an adobe gamma setting in the control panel.

Did you turn your ambient light feature off?

Thanks for your help.....

Not the Adobe gamma settings, never said that :p Goto preferences, the apple in the menu bar, then system preferences. Then display, colour and calibrate. You should also give spotlight a whirl if you need to find things. Its very clever. Hit the apple key and space. Type in gamma, or calibrate and you'll get a list. In that list will be displays.

Thanks bud....

Its running now :)

Set it to 2.2 but now its asking about a Target White Point? Which one should I set it to? I have....

Native

Infact left it on Native but D60 Neutral White looks like a safe bet? But for now left it on native! :)

Not sure whether it is still required with newer versions of OS X but SuperCal is a shareware colour calibration programme that is far better than the built-in option.

Michael.

Shall take a look into this.....

Congrats on your move!!

Please do report back on any other teething problems.

But for budget constraints I would also have followed this route already!

It takes some time to get used to at 1920x1200 but its not for long till you appreciate the extra screen area available to you. I'm not complaining though :)

To cut a long story short though, I went to the Mac store on a Sunday, new Macbook Pro range arrived on Tuesday which were cheaper, went back a week later and swapped it for the new 17" MBP with HD Screen which also dropped in price? So all in all saved!

Plus still being a student I got 15% off, which was a saving near £300 :)

Initially, that was my first point of call..... obtain a refund for the price drop and exchange it for the newer model which had 2gb instead of 1! As I only had it a week, Mac honoured the swap out. Plus it had an LED backlit screen and a better processor......

After seeing the 17" mbp had gone down £100 I decided to upgrade to one of these but with the HD screen....

Could of waited for Leopard but was eager to buy as I'm moving away from the desktop pc scene. Watching Steve Jobbs demonstrate some of the new features in Leopard (apparently 300) I'm quite convinced that I will put Leopard on My Father Christmas list this year! :)
