I'm totally stumped with this one. Have just had to complete an Archive & Install as there were some very messed up permissions on my OS HD which could not be repaired. OS X now working fine again but it seems my Media drive has an issue wherby I get the error message 'The folder could not be opened because you have insufficient access privileges'.

It appears in Finder with a padlock and I can't view any contents. In the info all the Permissions are all listed as Custom. I have tried changing them but nothing happens.

I tried logging in as a root user to see if it would be possible to change the permissions but again am unable to. Although when logged in as root user, I can at least view all of the contents.

Any advice on this one would be gratefully recieved.

Hopeful thanks in advance...

Andy

Phew. After no help from AppleCare (who's suggestion was to log in as a superuser and copy everything to another external drive - all (900GB of it) I found the correct Terminal command to sort the permissions out.

Big sigh of relief...
