As above really..just starting to build a collection of quality knives again..wondered if anyone else here has a passion for them?

Not knives, not a collector either but I do have a nice stash of rifles . They are used daily though :)

I do like a good knife though. I own a few but they have seen better days after the gamekeepers life.

My wife complains if I buy any more knives, because we have loads in the kitchen already. My latest purchase is a boning knife (no sniggering from the back please), but after two weeks it seems as though it can only keep an edge for about ten minutes.
I do like my Japanese Santuko knife, because it is razor sharp, and makes a nice sound as I cut through stuff quickly.

Nice. Are there any laws regarding how big the blade has to be in the UK? Mine is the same size as that which I use for skinning.
I believe that if a blade is under 3 inches and non locking then you are legally allowed to carry it.If its any longer or a locking blade then you need good reason to have it on your person.

Thought so, just couldn't remember. I only ever carry mine about when I'm working and it's a 6inch locking one. I use a smaller one for skinning to do a neat job.

This is the pride and joy in my collection. Got my nephew to hold it for size comparison, he was 8years old when I took this. Sako TRG-42 .338 lapua magnum. It gives a fairly nice kick:)

I've turned into a bit of a connoisseur of multi tools, my current leatherman has an S30V blade and it's razor sharp.

Can't beat a good ol' Leatherman. I still have one my dad bought me in the early 90's and it can still slice through inch thick rope in one go.

I have a Gerber Mini-Swagger (stupid name, great knife for a sub £35) 2.8" that lives in my first aid kit within my mountain bike pack for emergency use.

Keep meaning to get another Gerber or a Benchmade for general use.

Zero tolerance looks like a decent knife Neil..Well ups have cocked my delivery up so my knife is stuck in Watford depot..the other half is collecting after work and HH have refunded postage so not all lost.Ordered one of these last night just to use at work etc as edc.

Yeah supposed to be great little knife for everyday stuff.Just a shame they dont do the black blade part serrated with a different colour handle! I guess I wont lose it though with the dayglow colour :D

I have quite a few knives (Rob Brown, Spyderco, CRKT, Kershaw etc) but I leave most of them at home, in another country, because they don't comply with UK law for EDC and I don't need them here. I normally carry a Swiss Army knife, and have a Leatherman at home because it's a handy thing to have and I like it.

Paul, I'm curious about the .338 Lapua. Wanting something is a perfectly good reason for owning it, but it's a very powerful, extreme long range, cartridge - as you know - and I'm wondering what you use it for?

Originally I bought it for work but I can honestly say it's not the right round to use at all on deer (I'm a gamekeeper). It just decimates them which renders the hide and a lot of the meat useless. Given that I mainly just use it for pleasure now. I really like the challenge of long range shooting and especially overcoming all the variables to get that perfect shot at over a mile. My best shot so far was at 1800yds which is roughly a mile and I got an 11inch group of three rounds out of five. It's capable of travelling a lot further but I just haven't managed it yet.

It's also the stupid things I like. When you're shooting at that sort of range you can actually see the shock wave of the round as it travels to the target. Seeing it actually happen with the human eye is pretty damn smart.

I use smaller rounds on the animals now though. Mainly my .243 or .270max.

I'll get a video the next nice day I take it out for some practice and I'll set up the GoPro at the 2000yard mark with my DSLR by my side to show there's no dodgy editing lol.

I have a few - Spyderco, Benchmade, H & K, Queen Cutlery, etc. My current faves are Great Eastern Cutlery's range of traditional pocket knives. I also have a few Victorinox Swiss Army knives that I've replaced the plastic scales with wooden ones:

Cheers,

Dave

I've got the leatherman charge TTi that I keep in the "tool draw"
that I've had for a few years, your post prompted me to google them
I paid about 1/3rd of that

Also a Gerber suspension that I carry "at work"

I have a Leatherman Charge which I normally carry everyday and a spare Leatherman Supertool which was given to me by a man in a black work uniform :muted: :schtum:

I was also given a nice Zippo with crossed flags of UK / USMC :D

Yip, they are getting a bit pricey, but I still prefer the original Leatherman brand. The locking blades do present a problem for UK EDC though, unless you have a "good reason" and I'm not sure mine would go down too well with the police...!

I have the Wave, bought in SA when my son was managing an outdoor store. The agent's regional manager offered me 50% discount if I'd let them engrave my name on it. Never quite worked that out, but no problem.

I have a couple of Opinel knives who's blades seem to stay sharp forever, a dinky little one for box opening and a bigger 'Picnic' locking one for the toolshed, it has a rounded end which I like as I have no intention of ever stabbing anyone.

I used to have a little collection (15-20 or so) of pocket knives, Swiss army style knives, spring assisted locking knives and also some fantasy daggers and swords. But SWMBO made me sell them all when the first child came.
I now have just one fancy(ish) locking knife which I use for opening things in my YouTube unboxing videos.

well my yojimbo 2 turned up or rather was collected due to cock up from ups! Lovely well made folding knife, will post some pics up in next day or so.
Random youtube vid of it for now

Is that your every day carry knife mate lol
I just use it for opening letters and sharpening pencils, these days mate :D

Yeah can see that would work along with some whittling :D

Very slightly off topic, but I do really like good quality kitchen knives :p
Inspired by Andy's post, beautiful range here that I really want to buy a few more of : http://www.kinknives.com/suminagashi-knives/

As for the weapons type, no nothing (unless you count the leatherman that I keep on a keyring - it's useful! but obviously not as a weapon)

My grandfather used to have a fantastic collection of rifles. Spent many a Sunday afternoon visit as a child helping to clean and oil them.
Unfortunately my uncle inherited them and gave them up when they tightened up UK gun legislation . . . absolutely gutted, because had I been older at the time I would have happily taken ownership and responsibility for them.

That's a jolly nice rifle!

I've got a leatherman wave and a CKRT of some description from when I used to shoot regularly... Kept my HW80K, AAS410 went though.

Would love to apply for FAC but I'm still at home with my parents and they don't want a rifle cabinet.

This should provide some amusement:

I still have my Weihrauch HW 97K anniversary model in the weird finish. My dad remarked that it was heavier than a SMLE service rifle (from what he could remember). I can confirm that it is heavier than a Kalashnikov Dragunov sniper's rifle (having considered buying a deactivated one for £250 at a military fair).
I think that the Weihrauch is every bit as accurate as my old Feinwerkbau 300s target rifle from the early eighties and that was incredible, with .177 calibre and diopter sights, you could hit sets of maximums at will if relaxed and not in competition conditions.
