An actor I shot recently has decided that the tie he chose to wear was too distracting, and would like me to 'blacken it out' - how would I go about this, keeping it natural looking?

(ignore rest of image, it hasn't been touched yet...)

If you have Lightroom,( or use ACR in Photoshop ) use the Adjustment brush to paint in some density to the tie.I f you select auto masking it will stop the correction being painted into the shirt.

I found a correction of about -0.9 subdued the tie without it looking artificial and matched the rest of the suit and shirt.

This was done with some careful selection and colour replace (Image > Adjustments > Colour Replace) in photoshop.

I think Tringa's burn tool option looks completey authentic and natural. That would be the winner to me.
 
I thought the opposite. It almost looks like its made of copper now. Too much contrast and a horrible colour.
If he wanted it to be less distracting, then surely something which blended in more would be more appropriate.

Each to their own i suppose.

Hi Dan, you do not have your edit box ticked so, strictly speaking, we should not be posting edited versions of your picture.
If you want to change the edit to ticked select User CP and then select Edit your details. The Image Editing selection is the last one on that page.
