looks like it left the nest a bit early- eating the fat balls and I've given him some water. Now sitting on the ground- don't want the cats to get it!

This is just a guess.

If you can get him/her to sit in a tree than have a try at that. That would keep it off the ground and the parents may find it.

If that is not possible, ie he/she keeps falling out, then put it in a box indoors over night and try getting it into a tree again tomorrow.

Just flown into an oak tree after I held it in my hands whilst it had a drink. Hopefully it will be O K

Well done for assisting him/her.
Uber cute.

Don't interfere, hard as it is. Nature takes it's own course.

Generally agreed. Although when you add in cats ,which are hardly 'natural' (as in brought in by 'man'), then I can forgive a bit of assistance to fledglings in avoiding those.

Yeh cats are a pain but sticking the poor wee thing up a tree ain't gonna protect it from cats any more than leaving it on the ground. Just a matter of time if it can't fly or if it's the runt of the brood.

Well it's survived the night- it can fly, just not very well. Feeding on the fat balls and flying about the back garden.
