Do you know of any good UK DIY forums ?
Thanks all.
Thanks all.
I always find Youtube very helpfulThanks all, I have recently moved house to a semi fix me up and have been happily doing most of the stuff myself , new fence, shed, re bricked the chimney new doors, guttering +++ But something happened the other day that surprised me ! A friend of mine came round as I was messing with the door frame he said you want to watch out with that as the door is really insecure I pointed out it has multiple locking points and he said watch this, He put one of his keys in the lock as far as it would go and then gave it a tap the door open no problem with out the correct key ( suposidly it is called bumping). From this I wish to fit a couple of extra inside bolts to prevent this happening whilst we are in but as the door is a composite one I have no idea where or if I can fit them. Plus I thought it would be good to have other peoples feedback on other ideas on problems as and when I come across them.
It's a well known technique and most locks are not bump proof but how often have you heard of a burglar using bumping to break in?suposidly it is called bumping
Makes sense, no self respecting burglar is going to start thumping on your door if they think you're in so bolts will not be much use. Upgrade the lock is your best bet (some kind of mortice) and yeah for that hit the diy forums. It's a well known technique and most locks are not bump proof but how often have you heard of a burglar using bumping to break in?
Doesn't need to be noisy can easily be done with a tennis ball. Also carrying a tennis ball is hard to prove a burglar is "going equipped"Makes sense, no self respecting burglar is going to start thumping on your door if they think you're in so bolts will not be much use.
