I created similar thread about short eared owl. Grey seals are a second animal which i love and i have the chance to find on my doorstep (i live in orkney). Any good read that you would recommend to learn more about these animal. So i look for a book which is not a one sea mammal per page kind of book, and i don't really want to learn about the sea lion which live in south africa but some relevant information. Any ideas?
Thanks

The 1966 book 'Grey seal, common seal: an account of the life histories of British seals' by the esteemed Welsh naturalist Ronald M Lockley seems to be the closest to a dedicated monograph for greys, (used from £4 at abebooks). You get (the uncommon) common seals on Oakney too.

While it covers all 33 species, The Behaviour of Pinnipeds looks like the most complete look in the details of seals (but then I'm a sucker for proper textbooks). However at £300, that might be one to request as a loan via the library system (the Brit. Lib have a copy for loan, while the Scot. Lib have an ebook version you can read online for anyone with a Scottish address). Slightly more affordable is a used copy of The Natural History of Seals.

Thanks lots in there!

I can give this a go. At 4£ can't really get disappointed

A bit on the expensive side indeed, thanks to the amazon listing you get browse a few pages, from the table it looks really thorough indeed! I can have a look at the scottish library, i just don't like much reading on the computer this kind of stuff.

Thanks anyway that get me looking further, i'll get back to you when i buy something!
