any galleries/exhib worth visting in london?...

Well, the Photographers Gallery appears to be closed until next autumn!
How about the Hayward on the South Bank for something different:
Move: Choreographing You at Hayward Gallery invites you to become a participant – and in some cases a dancer – in installations and sculptures by internationally renowned visual artists.

The best that I could find is the Jazz Festival this weekend (http://www.londonjazzfestival.org.uk/) if that is your thing.

Natural History Museum - Wildlife photographer of the year. A fantastic place too to get some pics. :)

I hadn't thought of that. Looks interesting. Might try to get along to that, too.

Someone mentioned the Press Photo of the Year at the Festival Hall.

And there's that much discussed Taylor Wessing Photographic Portrait at the NPG on Trafalgar Square ...

tate modern has a bruce davidson collection (if you're in to pj) plus some other photography on display

Not photography.. but I'd recommend Coral Reef by Mike Nelson at Tate Britain, it's right next to the suspended Sea Harrier and reclining Jaguar installations. Considering it's "just" a series of small interconnected rooms I found it strangely fascinating. They've also got the Eadweard Muybridge exhibition running but I didn't have time to see that when I was in last.

Tate Modern is always worth a visit, and the shop usually has a good selection of photography books. The cafe/restaraunt is good value as well.

There are two parades/demo's on at the weekend if you want to practice your people shots...

Sat 20th Stop The War Coalition/CND/British Muslim Initiative
Hyde Park -> Trafalgar Sq forming up 12:00 start 13:00-16:30

Sun 21st AJEX Remembrance Parade (Jewish Ex Servicemen's Assoc)
Horse Guards and Whitehall 10:00 onwards

Full details of timing and locations here:

I'm there over the weekend... anything photography I should go and see?

thanks in advance

steve

Probably not, it's such a small place you would be lucky..........

The British Museum have their "Book of the Dead" exhibition on at the moment, if you did all things Egyptian you might enjoy that - they don't mind cameras either it seems.

The National Portrait Gallery has the shortlisted and winning shots for the Taylor Wessing exhibition. I actually entered this year but wasn't selected. lol. It's always worth popping in to see what was though. Good central location too.

I think the exhibition's a bit dark for photos, usually the paying exhibitions prohibit photography. The rest of the place is fair game, though.

Did the Taylor Wessing thing today, costs £2 to see it, probably a reasonable waste of 40 minutes. The Press Photo exhibition at the Royal Festival Hall was much better, and free. Some of its quite graphic and brutal, but very thought provoking. If you want interactive, go to the Hayward, Choreographing You. Fun.
