Hi guys. I bought a 2 litre tub of Tesco soft scoop vanilla ice cream today and it was not put in my freezer for 2 hours by which time it had completely melted to soft cream. :(

I read its dangerous to refreeze ice cream that's completely defrosted so do I bin it? Or will it be safe but just not be very good?
Google says,

'It is only safe to refreeze ice cream if it is slightly melted and has been kept cold. If it melted outside the freezer, refreezing it and eating it could be unsafe. When ice cream melts, bacteria such as Listeria can grow. Listeria outbreaks can occur in freezers when ice cream that melted is refrozen.'

Bin it, as bacteria ( listeria ) can grow.
Thanks Dave. I've now binned it and will rebuy more ice cream tomorrow. What a waste eh. :D Still, better to lose £1.80 than to get ill.

On a side note.....

There has been a warning earlier today about a Listeria risk with all smoked fish products.

Though the news info pointed the highest risk is those in "at risk groups"
Over 65's
Pregnancy
Immune suppressed individuals
