Any experts on sound here?

I'm trying to find out the frequency of noise emitted by a typical 12 bore shotgun, expressed of course in Hertz.

More specifically, I would like to know the frequency of 28gr No. 7,5 cartridges, these are clearly supersonic as they have a muzzle velocity of around 1450 fps or 441.96 m/s

Not an expert but gunshots tend to be a spectrum of frequencies - peaking between approx (very) 125Hz & about 2.5-3kHz - searching for something like "shotgun sound histogram" might get you somewhere

I did look up Sound Spectrum Analyser on the Google Play store and various apps come up.

So, in the absence of specialised equipment..... perhaps worth trying an App or two and see if one is effective enough for your purposes

As said, it will be a complex mix of frequncies, rather than a single pitch, and that will change through the time that the shot develops.

Many thanks for the replies so far.
I appreciate that there will be variables, I expected to be able to source some data online, but am struggling, which is why I decided to ask the experts on TP:)

You'd think that, as a photographer who has a special interest in lighting, my physics knowledge would help - but the knowledge that I do have is over a fairly limited band, which is why I'm struggling.

Perhaps these came up on your research.....but just in case .... :)

Thanks for all the help, I think that I can now say that the frequency will be in the range of 500 to 1000 Hz, which will be good enough for the purpose.

What this is about is that a sound expert (working for the other side) is trying to say that the noise from a bird scaring machine is similar to that of a shotgun, which is ridiculous.
