I have been looking into DAS NAS and SAS systems and decided that DAS is the right option.

I need at least 4 HDD/SSD bays and maybe 2 NVME. Anyone have any experience and can recommend a make please?

I have been happy with Synology for NAS, although their latest software updates seem to be removing features for home users.

For DAS I have used GTech and Lacie in the past, if I was buying again I would probably go GTech.

Can you elaborate more please? Mine hasn't been connected to internet for a while so I missed out on the downgrades

Removing some of the video codecs/killing their media player, on a point update. I'm also getting the vibe from their marketing/product releases that they are concentrating more on businesses with Disk Station, and expecting consumers to use their Bee series.

Depends on how much you want to spend.

I have a Asustor Lockerstor 4 Gen 2 NAS which has top notch hardware, but it was not as cheap as some others. You get what you pay for.

this guy know his stuff about NAS Hardware and he has a YouTube channel as well, review of my Nas below

I never used anything like that. Mine is basically a fancy duplicated hard drive that is far away enough not to be heard in any way, shape or form.

Soon I guess 4-8TB NVMEs will get cheap enough to build a little raid inside of my PC so I may not necessarily require another one.

I've been happy with Synology, but their hardware has always been a bit weak compared with the competition and they replied on great software, but that software is slowly getting cut back for home users.

Personally if I was buying a NAS now I'd look elsewhere for better value such as Asustor.

Everyone seems to be recommending NAS when the OP really wants DAS. No, I can't help with DAS either but I though I'd point it out.
For NAS I'd currently recommend Asustor Nimbustor 4 Gen 2.

I think it's the OP's specification of at least 4 HDD/SSD bays and maybe 2 NVME that's pushing everyone to talk about a NAS solution, and some (but not all) NAS can be used simply as a DAS without any network connectivity.
