Generally, my decision is easy. If I'm printing snapshots (commonly 6x4 or the like) which I do increasingly infrequently I use snapfish or whoever has the best deal on at the time. Volumes tend to be high and the cost of carriage is not material. If I am printing out one of my own Great Works of Art, or more commonly a proof print before sending to a decent processor, I will use some of my hoarded supply of Epson Unicorn Wee.
Only, now I want to print a small number of 5x7 or 10x8 snaps for family, which would be expensive on the inkjet but also relatively expensive online because of the typically £5 or more carriage.
I wondered if anyone knows a good way around this very small and very first world problem.
