I took these a couple of days ago and would appreciate any advice for pp. I have not done anything to them yet.

2.

Any thoughts or advice etc.

A tighter crop (especially on the left) might help the second shot and concentrate on the tree's reflection a bit

beginner here

1.. i like this as-is - why change it.....?

2
clone out the mole hills?
crop the rhs building out which will move the tree of-centre
clone out the white gate

When you say concentrate on the reflection, do you mean make it sharper etc or were you meaning crop so that the tree fills the whole image

Hiya,

1. not too much water?
2. good ideas which tie in with Gold's comments as well.

Thanks to both of you. Any more????

That's better, the house on the left is still very distracting but there's nothing you can do about it without making it into having a stupidly proportioned image (i.e. too tall and thin) :)

Something to think about next time you take a shot - the background :)

 so much to think about, so little memory  Thanks for your help.

You could always clone it out, put something in front of it........... though to be honest - rather than cloning this, cropping that, spend a few seconds working out what you want to capture and then compose the shot better first.

Do you use the viewfinder or livewiew?

I would leave the swan as it is - though it looks like the swan's back is blown a bit (overexposed - and all detail lost)

ok, very rough cover job but with a bit more time I think I could get it ok.

Oh poop! I forgot to sort the house reflection doh!

I use the viewfinder but I know I still have a lot to learn. I should nt rely on photoshop but its good for newbies like me till I know what I am doing with a camera

By the way, I love your avatar. Is there a name for that style (where it is B&W with only a selected bit of colour)? I would like to learn how to do it as it looks really cool.

Thanks for your comments!

did you use a tripod ? if not, why not....:)

i've started and find if I compose the shot, then stand up and look at the overall scene again I can re-assess what i want to include

such as " not the 2 houses" and maybe a bit further away so the tree reflection doesn't hit the bank

It is called selective colouring. The simplest way to do it is to make a second layer, turn it to black and white and then use the eraser tool to rub out the bits that you want coloured. It is very easy to do.

Personally, with the second image I would crop the left side off so you couldn't see the house of the big concrete fence post.

Then, I'd remove the grass at the bottom and replace it with water, obviously taking care where the grass overlaps the tree reflection.

I can't do it as I am at work but IF I get chance later I will have a play.

No I did nt take a tripod. It was my first "walk" with my camera and did nt want to "look" as though I knew what I was doing as there are always photographers down at the canal and they might have asked me about f numbers and the like, scary:lol:

I will do next time though because half of the shots I did take were oof so clearly I have shaky hands :shake:

Thanks for that, I will be playing in photoshop tonight

That would be great. I would nt attempt to clone the water as that seems a "bridge too far" with my limited experience :D

in the end - it's what you like with the result

having a second look - you are from Herts - the house on the left is a typical Essex/ Herts house - if you like it - leave it in ...

Just wanted to say thanks everybody who took the time to give me their opinions. It all helps me in my learning process ;)
