Can any one recommend a good anti virus I can down load as I dont want to keep norton which I am due to renew this week.

I've been using AVG free edition for years with no problems.

web site keeps trying to guide you to the paid version so just check you are clicking the free one.
 
I was in the same boat as you. I'd just about had enough of Norton and all it's resource hungry bloatware. I now run Kaspersky and find it absolutely superb. It's just sits there quietly in the background doing it's thing and you hardly notice it's there :love:

Just had a look at avg looks ok so will now remove Norton cheers for that

+1 for Avast. It also reaches the parts that other AV software doesn't, I ran it and it immediately found me a trojan that had been there for months. :love:
 
I've got AVG too but had Norton before, you need to make sure it is completely removed though before installing AVG as it doesn't like it and gives you stroppy dialogue boxes :lol::lol: (speaking from experience) :lol:
 
another vote for avast! beats the crap outta norton, Norton was giving me a lot of "issues" not removing or even detecting half of what it should.
Touch wood no such issues with avast! ( so far)
 
Another vote for AVG here - cracking for nowt and updates regularly.

Good luck getting rid of Norton - it's the biggest virus of them all!!!

you can can a Norton removel tool which will clear all the crap away to do with symantec
 
Took me a while but Nortons gone now running Avast. Thanks for all the help and advice.

I'm an AVG user too.

By the way I was once told if you have a problem with your PC the first thing to do is uninstall Norton as 90% of the time getting rid of Norton will solve your problems.
 
I tend to flip every 6 months or so between the free stuff you can get, such as AVG, Avast, and Antivir Personal. The Antivir I find uses less resources and is updated every day and doesn't intrude like others. All 3 are worth trying as they all detect different things.

Thank you very much Nathan, just used it and came up clean which surprised me as my brother sends me loads of dodgy links. Proves that Avast is working too. :clap:

Now just parcel up your grandfather clock and send it to Turkey and I'll restore it for you!

AVG for me, been using it for years with no problems.

Norton is notorious for not removing cleanly, as Alan mentioned the best way is download and use the symantec removal tool linky

As harsh as it sounds guys, the best way of keeping your computer clean is just to follow a safe use policy.

You'd be amazed at home many people don't realise that cracks and keygens for software include droppers for malware. Why do you think the crack was created in the first place? It's a lure!

But then even diligence doesn't help when it comes to drive-by installs. It's a carzy world we live in!
