Greetings fellow photography talkers.
I'm revving up my long-time dormant interest in photography for what, I hope, turns out to be a revelatory trip to the Himalayas next Spring. Joe T suggested I take a look at this site and I have to say it looks great.
To get me started I bought a Canon 30D (sorry Joe!) this week. I already have an EOS-iX with 24-85 and 75-300 lenses so I bought the new body with a Sigma 10-20 zoom to plug the wide angle hole in my arsenal. My feet look great in the few shots I've taken so far!
I used to be a very keen amateur photographer in my teens. Totally bereft of talent (and money, of course!) but I cut my teeth on a Zenit E, FP4 and one of those dodgy Eastern European enlargers with which I tried all sorts to fix the mistakes I'd made with the camera.
I graduated (?) to Minolta 7000 and 9000 in the 80s. The former was supposed to make it into an underwater housing but I was so frustrated trying to get more than 2 or, if I was lucky 3, good shots from each dive on my Nikonos, that the housing stayed in the shop. What a revelation the digital age must be to the underwater photographer!
The Minoltas were traded in for the EOS-iX. Yes, I know the APS format trades photo quality for the novelty of selectable picture formats but, when you're working in a talent vacuum anyway...
I'm hoping you'll welcome me (gently, please) with open arms and useful hints and tips on how to get the most out of my 30D.
Kind regards,
Clive

Hey Clive, welcome along! This is a great friendly place to learn and get inspired.

You bought the right camera btw ;)

:canon:

welcome Clive!

Hello :)

The freedom to experiment that digital gives you makes the improving and feeling a little more talented bit a lot easier than it was with film. enjoy the new camera :)

Hi Clive, Welcome aboard

Hi, and welcome :)

The Sigma 10-20mm is great isn't it? That was my last purchase. Have you managed to walk into anything yet?

We most certainly will welcome you with open arms.

Great choice of camera too! I'm also a 30D owner, and I must say I've not regretted my purchase one bit.
