Don't worry i have already searched and can see there is plenty of threads about which monitors to pick.
The bit i could do with some help on is with regards to DCI-P3, simple question, how relevant is it to photographers? If i buy a monitor without it am i being very short sighted by saving the money now and within 2 years it will be something i regret, or is it something that will mostly affect videographers/gamers?

Cheers

Col

P3 or adobergb will be a must soon. They are quite close, but not exactly the same. If you print you already require it. All web is moving towards P3, so as a content creator you want to have compatible solution

Given that 99% of digital transfers for printing are done in sRGB and the entire web (ie digital viewing) is based on it, I can't see it either being vital or even needed anytime soon.

aRGB isn't even that widely used yet and that's been around for donkey's.

Ok cheers for the replies. The concern i have currently is that when it comes to peripherals i tend not to replace them until they die, the monitor i need to replace is about 12 years old (only vga, not even dvi), and the main monitor that will become the secondary is a 10 year old dell one. 10 years is a long time to be stuck with something that isn't up to the job anymore if P3 were to become the norm in the next 2 years.

Currently i keep flitting between a dell ultrasharp up2716d and the benq 2700pt which gives me 99/100% sRGB and aRGB, and over 90% P3, but if possible i would much prefer to drop the price by about 200 quid and get something more "sensibly" priced.

Technically you may be still right, but the wold is firmly moving to DCI-P3 for web and cine. All apple devices are P3, now and MS world is not far behind. As a content creator you don't want at the back of the pack.

Secondly, for printing, and some agencies aRGB was a must a whole decade ago (that's when I started)

dell ultrasharp up2716d

That's very old (2015!!!). There are far better and newer models now. Look at HP, LG, Acer, Asus, etc for alternatives. Most including DELL re-use same panels; just pick the right one for your reqs. Only buy this sort of thing new with warranty.

I have two of those in a dual setup, brilliant monitors, you will not be disappointed, well worth the extra few quid over some other brands.

Thanks for the help everyone, I ended up backing away from replacing the main monitor for a better one in favour of a bog standard ips screen. I kept coming back to the two I mentioned earlier but with the situation as it is currently I just couldn’t stomach paying that sort of money right now with other priorities taking preference.

I’ll revisit this when things improve as my mind is made up about changing the main screen now for a bigger and better one.

@LongLensPhotography any suggestions on newer screens that fit the bill? The reviews I looked at seemed to keep coming back to those two at the price band I was looking in. The one that seems to get better reviews again for not much more was the benq sw270c but that was another 75 quid over the others.

Thanks again

Col
