Edit My Images
Yes
I am a new user and am working my way around LR3. I have found the copyright message area thingy and am aware I can automatically add the messages to each picture as they are imported.

Now, I already have many pictures on my computer which were there before I even knew about Lightroom, which Lightroom has found and added to its catalogue. Is there a way I can batch process these existing pictures to add copyright and keyword information?

This should answer your question for keywords: LINK! .. I'm not too sure about the Metadata part though unless you want to add it directly onto the image (which you already know how to to do :))

Yes - you can select and add a metadata preset with copyright info. If you need help ask in the morning when I'm not using my phone. :)

ok

In grid view - look at the metadata panel on the right.
at the top it says - PRESET - click the down arrow and one option is edit presets.
In the panel that opens add all the data you want - which can also include keywords and other data as well as copyright info.
When you're finished entering data - click save as

Select a group of pictures in grid view
Select your metadata preset
In the dialogue box that opens - click all selected
Your metadata is now added to all the selected pictures.

You can also just select pictures in grid view and click SYNC in the metadata panel at the bottom - add your info and click synchronise - abd again all that data is added to the selected pictures.

The advantage of the first way is it saves the metadata as a preset and you can apply it again without re inputting data - so especially useful for copyright info etc - you can also use that preset on import.
