Another Jessops rant!

Having been given a really helpful heads-up from a TP member about a Canon 2X TC at the Jessops Basildon store, I thought I'd investigate as I am looking for one of these at present.
I contacted the store to confirm the item was still available and it was. The price was £149.99 which is a bargain. It turns out it had been ordered in error by a customer and sat in their cupboard for a few months.
I asked if the item could be sent out as I live in Cheshire to which the shop assistant told me that I would have to collect. This made it not financially viable until the kind TP member offered to collect for me and post it to my home address (which shows there are some good people still about:)).
I then called the Basildon store back to pay via credit card, only to find that the TC had been sent out to another store! :bang:
If I'd have been told of this option on my initial enquiry I would have had the TC sent to my local store in Macclesfield and paid there and then!

I have now missed out on a bargain and am not impressed with Jessops. I have sent an email complaint to see what they have to say, although based on my current experience I'm not expecting much! :shake:

Rant over.

Gareth

Did you not think to ask them if they would send it to another store for you?

How is this a rant about Jessops? Surely this is a rant about your inability to find a solution to the problem. I'm sure there are lots of bargains in lots of shops you're not able to get to but it's not their fault if you can't get there to buy them.

Fair point but do you not think whoever was on the other end of the phone should have suggested this to the customer?

Another fair point but do you not think the person on the other end of the phone was probably an uneducated part-time worker who knows nothing about cameras or customer service? This isn't a Jessops problem, it's a retail problem in general.

Who knows who was on the other end of the phone, but it certainly ain't good customer service.

I suspect that standard applies to more folk than Jessops, however our OP didn't go the mystery-shopper route, just Jessops, so quite entitled to a wee rant.

If I'd have been given all the options by Jessops in the first place, I would have already had the solution. The problem is lack of information. Why was I not offered the chance to have the TC sent to my local store if that was a service available to me? :bang:
That way I wouldn't have needed to get to the store and could have paid over the phone - quite a common method these day. :cuckoo:

Is it just me, or would this not have worked anyway? How could someone off the Internet have collected on your behalf if you've paid for it over the phone? They aren't just going to let someone walk in and take it

Provide the store with the full name of the collector along with my mobile number (verified by the credit card payment). simple.

I asked if it could be sent out and was told categorically "no". This is what is so annoying. This is the reason I missed out through no fault of my own.

Fair comment.

Still think a rant about a shop selling something 200 miles away is a bit .......

I'm pretty sure that wouldn't have worked anyway, as for Collect at Store you need to present the card used for payment before they'll release the goods......

I've sent my dear old mum to collect from a store for me in the past with no problem.

I don't see how distance can be considered. They are a retail shop with a product for sale that could easily have been forwarded to any store around the country.
Anyway, had my rant. Poorly trained staff at Jessops which has come up before on TP.

I assume she has the same surname as you? Might be pushing it a bit to expect them to hand over £150 worth of goods to someone in a town 200 miles away on the strength of a mobile phone number that "allegedly" belongs to the person whose card was used to make the purchase....

I know that the way it used to work (for retailers to protect themselves from card fraud) this would not have worked.

If paying by card over the phone then the item has to be sent to the customer so it's a Mail Order Transaction.

When ordering to Collect at Store the credit card used for the purchase would have to be presented at the store and the transaction would then be a shop sale.

Not sure if this has changed recently though.

You could see how easy it would be to use your own card, send in a "friend" then deny all knowledge of the transaction which would leave the retailer wide open to such abuse.

In your own case would it not have made sense to visit your local Jessops and ask them to ring the store in question and get them to do a store transfer of the stock if this was available?

This is the whole point - if I had been given the option of transfering to another store I would have. End of story.

Nope - you just take in the print out of your order, they get the item based on the order number - job done. At least that's whats happened when I've used Jessops before.

I've always been asked for the card that was used for payment - maybe I just have one of those faces :suspect::lol:

Thats only when you order online and pay in store.

The other issue is that i bet when the TC was transfered to the other store it was sold for a lot more than £149.99 ;)
