Another colour profile question

My monitor calibrator generates a colour profile which I believe is an sRGB type profile. I have that profile selected in the monitor control panel but when else do I need it?

Do I use it when exporting from a RAW convertor into CS2 or do I just use sRGB etc?

Do I use it when sending a photo to someone else so it looks the same on their monitor as mine?

Do I use it for printing?

Or, do I use it for nothing other than the monitor?

Also, when I open a JPEG straight into CS2 it asks me what I want to do to colour manage it. If I remember rightly I can do nothing, I can use the embedded profile or I can discard the profile and use the working space which is the profile from the monitor claibrator?

Can someone clear this up for me please as I need to get my head around this bit before I start messing around with lightroom as I've read loads about people having problems with colours changing between lightroom and CS2.

cheers,
Kev

Use it for just the monitor profile - It just makes the monitor display images to the standard you set when profiling the screen.

on the cs2 question, your working colour space is not your monitor profile you have made that is just for your monitor. You should be using sRGB, Adobe RGB (1998), or ProPhotoRGB. etc sRGB being smallest gamut ProPhotoRGB being the larges of the 3. I sugest either sRGB or Adobe RGB (1998). you can get into a mess if you start using the other as some programs dont like it.

You need to go into the colour management setup screen of CS2 and adjust the working profile to your selected choice.

easiest one to use is sRGB as you dont have to worry about changing it if you post to web etc.

Hope that helps clear it up a bit

Thanks very much for the help.
