Hi folks
Just been looking at the cactus V2s, and it looks exactly what I need for firing remote flashguns, however, do I have to have the transmitter fixed to my camera hotshoe or can it be operated off-camera? I really need something I can use away from the camera.

Also, can they be used with any old flashguns such as the Vivitar 283 and 285?
I looked on the website but couldn't get this info.

Thanks:)

Thanks mate! If I can use the test button thats great, exactly what I need. Any idea how many flashes you can fire at once? I was thinking of using 3 if thats possible.

3 is easily possible. Don't think there's a specific limit as to how many though. I only got mine today, but am pleasantly surprised.

Where do you get them from Sam? I looked on the Gadget Infinity site but the prices are in dollars so I thought it must a USA shop. Is there a UK retailer?

You can fire as many as you want with one trigger, the only limiting factor os that fact that they aren't exactly reliable, so whilst you might have three or four receivers/flashes you might not get all firing at once. They're easy enough to mess about with and fix though, it's just time consuming and irritating...

GI are in Hong Kong, although there stuff is priced in dollars.

There is a newer wireless trigger available now that seems to be a bit better, but you'll need to do a trawl through either the TP Lighting section or Strobist to get the name, unless someone else here can remember what they're called :bonk:

If you get these, buy some long PC to Hotshoe cables, then, like i do, you can fire upto 4 flashes with 2 RC's. Or 6 with 3 and so on.... You basically fit one on the hothsoe, and then pc cable the other off to another position. I use 5 mtr cables and have never had an issue with it. If you want any help with mods, PM me and i can show you what i have done and talk you through it;)

I'm really interested to know why you can't use the transmitter on the hot shoe?

Possibly wants to use a flash on the camera as well? And if no PC socket on the camera....

Cant you get a hotshoe adapter that adds a PC socket?

I know its a bit odd! Its just in some situations when in caves and mines, for lighting really long tunnels I like to set the camera to a really long exposure and walk down the tunnel firing off a flash in my hand or using a lamp to do lighting effects. So I want the versatility of being able to fire the flashes without necesarily being next to the camera.
I'm just getting into using a combination of lighting to try out new ideas really.Hope that kinda makes sense!

That makes perfect sense, it's not odd at all, you can also push the test button on the flash to do that as well.
