An elderly friend has an older HUDL tablet which runs Android and has recently lost the ability to display videos, the video plays and the sound is heard but alas no video is visible, in all other respects the screen works perfectly displaying photos and illustrations, just no video.
I have checked for updates but it says none are available and that the current software, dated 2014, is up to date :(
Being unfamiliar with Android I don't know any other specifics about the tablet or the software it is running, anyone have any ideas of what I might try, or is it simply a case of the tablet being now beyond the capacity of dealing with current requirements?

Is there a difference between the videos that used to play and those that don't play now, E.G. before they were MP4 and now they are MKV?
To me it sounds like a codec issue which could be resolved with the installation of an app from the Play store that supports are larger array of video extensions/codecs

Thanks, I'll check that out. :)

I know nothing about Android but when iOS apps stop working properly a hard reset cured the problem every time I or friends have experienced them. Maybe you can do a reset on the Hudl?

Waiting for friend to bring the Hudl now so will try suggestions :)

just grab VLC or MX player from app store, both support pretty much most codecs.
