We watched this video earlier. I wouldn't normally post about an André Rieu concert (they're great, though) however, this is special. It was in Bahrain filmed this year and what was fascinating was seeing men dressed in the traditional Arab dress and one women actually wore a burkah !! Quite a few wore the hijab/head scarf. The camera often panned the audience and it was fascinating watching them and their emotions. With some songs/pieces people got up and danced. I'm aware Bahrain is a liberal Islamic state... nevertheless..I have to say this, too..Lol. I've never seen so many beautiful females in an audience
By the way..just look at some of the watches worn by the females. It's clear these people are from the wealthier strata of their society...the makeup, too. One man looked a bit grumpy at the frivolity..he was traditionally-dressed,too but another man, in traditional dress, was in the aisle dancing. Amazing. Many in the audience knew the words to several songs and sung along. To see one of these concerts is on our "to do" list.
There was a sad but lovely moment when AR introduced a 15 year old girl,a singer, who had a nasty stomach condition requiring a catheter-like tube. That's why she was unable to bend down to the audience at the end of her songs. I couldn't catch what the condition was, but she was determined to follow her dream as a singer and AR called for people to help raise funds for research. What a wonderful voice she had as she sang a french song..I recognised it but don't know the title. Some of audience were in tears. On the time curser in the attached link it's at 1746....just after the three men playing the xylophones. I thought it was very culturally-sensitive of AR to have a song in Arabic sung by an Arab man and accompanied by Arab musicians, too. The audience loved it, of course and sung along with it.
We watched it on our TV with surrounds sound so if you can access Youtube on your TV watch it there. Note how the stage looks in this video so you get the right concert There's to be another concert there next year.
