Has anyone used one of these or one of these? I note that they're Arca compatible.. surely they can't be any good at such a low price?! Would be interested to hear experiences.

Me also, I have a Manfrotto MH054M0-Q2 head and when I called Manfrotto spares to see how much it would be to change the top plate only so it was an arca swiss head, they wanted £70 off me! £70! We're only talking the top plate the quick release plate clamps into, the ball for the ball head and base wouldn't change! £70!

I could get one of these Andoer heads and a generic L bracket and have £40 change from it all for that!

Yeah, the prices for this kit appear to be all over the place, and it's hard to tell from just looking at it why an Andoer head costs £20 and a SunwayFoto one (for instance) costs £120.

Just ordered an L Plate for £15 off of the auction site. Could not justify a branded one for £100 plus.

Time will tell if it's ok and durable etc but I think there are definitely bargains to be had and lessons to be learned on where we purchase our accessories from and what we accept as a price to pay

There seem to be a lot of good reviews for that ball head @Nifkin

Thing is a ballhead or a three way head has a number of moving parts, a L-plate doesn't, so the latter will be easier to produce cheaply. And tbh I don't really rate Amazon reviews, hence asking here.

I have one of the ball heads. I would like to think that a genuine Arca or Manfrotto was better made, because there's sometimes a small amount of movement caused by tightening the clamp bolts and movement isn't as smooth as I might like it to be, but it is very functional and stable when locked together.

I've have one ball heads for about 4 months now and for the £18 I paid for mine I have to say it is excellent value for money, it Is smooth in operation and locks tight without too much effort. Weight wise it is quite a substantial lump. At no time does it feel cheep or flimsy.

I'm sorry I don't understand your point?

Hi @Nifkin, what I'm trying to say is that we don't always have to buy the high-priced top brands.

For instance, I've just spent £15 on an L Bracket. If things work out with the product and it lasts and is strong enough, then the lesson learned is that you don't have to buy one made by someone like Three Legged Thing for 6 times the price.

Same with your ballhead

Yes I get the idea: that's why I started the thread.

You can help by telling me how you've found using the tripod heads I linked to?

Don't worry @Nifkin - you know exactly what I was trying to say - wasn't about the ballheads persay BUT was about the savings that can be made by purchasing non high class brands.

I'll step away from this thread and maybe not be so forthcoming with my thoughts in your future threads

I didn't know exactly what you were trying to say, Ian: I thought you may have been saying something more than simply stating the obvious. I guess I was overthinking your contribution.
