I'm having something of a location block. Where is good for landscapes at most about an hour from Edinburgh? I shoot in the Pentlands a lot especially in the summer and just thinking about somewhere I could go for a long morning with out the kids. Say away at 0630, hours drive, couple of hours walk/pictures, hours drive home. Back for lunch and afternoon with children.

What about doon the coast, Dunbar etc?

Hmmm, I was thinking more hills and glens than seas and sand. I'll give that some consideration, its not really a genre I've ever looked at.

How about the the Lomond Hills, north west of Glenrothes or the Ochils?

Dave

Cheers Dave, the ochils might be a good shout. I always worry about traffic in the Loch Lomond area but Stirling is usually fine.

Heading to The Trossachs / Loch Earn would be my suggestion for hills.

Loch Voil (Braes of Balquidder) is perhaps just over your 1 hour drive time but not by much. That would be my pick.

Trossachs / Loch Earn area too.

For smaller hills - Lomond Hills are OK (near where I live) or as mentioned the Ochils

Don't rule out the East Neuk of Fife either (Pittenweem, Crail, Anstruther etc)

There's obviously the Forth Bridge/s too.

Fortunately the Lomond Hills, near Glenrothes are miles from Loch Lomond. On the few times I have been there they have been very quiet.

Although you said you were looking away from sea and sand, Phil's suggestions on the Fife coast (Pittenweem, Crail, Anstruther) are good, as is East Wemyss.

Cheers Loch Voil looks like just the thing.

Well that's embarrassing! I seen Lomond and jumped to Ben Lomond... Egit.

I'll keep them in mind for when the days get shorter and I don't want to drive as far. Cheers
