Yes
So I have bought something from Amazon

My package was picked up by Yodel in Dunfermline in Fife

Great I think as I live in Livingston which is just down the road

The latest tracking now shows my parcel is at Yodels sort facility in Oldham Lancashire!!

Absolute madness

It's ok, you don't need to panic till it gets to Brighton

Absolute madness
You really haven't thought it through properly, have you? Sending everything via a central sortation hub has two main effects: it reduces the cost and it reduces the number of errors. Why is it mad to want to do that?

Might be that Oldham was closest.

Because there is a facility in Livingston

The parcel arrived at the Livingston facility mid morning and has done nothing since

oh boy - Dunfermline to Oldham and back to Livingstone

Well it's a well travelled package - about 240 miles for the first leg and about 215 for the second leg

Like I say probably just idiots.

Their driver claimed work was shut or inaccessible at 14:46 yesterday for a collection. Their cs claimed he might not have been able to find the address. I pointed out the Google street view showed:

1) We have sole use of the postcode.
2) The company logo in 20ft signage on every side of the building.
3) The front door wide open. Like it is 0830:1700.
4) A UKMail van outside, so it can't be that hard to find.

Well they have certainly missed there AM delivery slot

Still no sign on my package

Well I spoke to the lovely people at Yodel who proceeded to lie to me

They have had my parcel at there facility since 09:26, the same facility that is 10mins away from me, yet they have failed to deliver my parcel

Absolute joke

People need to vote with their feet, I try and actively avoid them for sending and receiving if at all possible. For the sake of an extra £5 I wish I'd used parcel force.

If you're on twitter make a point of tweeting them publicly with your finding.

Let's be honest if it arrived in their facility at that time it'd likely spend the day there, as I'd wager all vans would already be on their rounds a couple of hours before that, at least that is my experience

The whole point is Matt is that they should not have sent it all the way down to Oldham but to the depot in Livingston instead

They collected it yesterday from Dunfirmline at 14:19 which is about half an hour away yet managed to b****r it up and not get it to me today

But that's never going to happen is it, you do really expect them to have a vehicle going from every depot to every other depot? By Christ can you imagine the added traffic that would generate on the roads where as having one lorry get filled at each depot, and sent to the hub, then it gets filled will parcels destined to be distributed from that depot and the lorry returns to depot...okay so occasionally it will create situations where a parcel travels a lot more than actual a to b distance but it's still the most efficient and environmentally sound way to operate...in the system you seem be expecting say a courier has 50 depots you'd have them with 2500+ lorries travelling from depot to depot rather than say 50-100+ plus every depot would be drastically bigger etc...I dread to think much it would cost to post a parcel under your dream system

Please don't patronize me Matt

The distribution hub/depot for my area is Livingston, the town where I live, where my package currently is

It is not Oldham

They made a mistake

Not sure why you are finding this so hard to grasp

Wrong actually, yodel has 3 hubs nationally Yodel has hubs at Shaw(Oldham), Hatfield and Wednesbury all parcels except maybe those that come into the same depot they are going to be delivered from will traverse one of those hubs (at least one) on route to a delivery depot

There's no patronising going on, just just really don't seem to grasp the difference between a hub and a depot and the way they work

Your information is wrong

Yodel purchased and opened up a 100,000 square foot hub in Livingston, I live just 10mins away from it

Well I'm sorry but I can find nothing online to suggest my information is wrong all the press releases I found call it a depot not a hub, any how all that said I just cannot be arsed to continue to discuss this, it's clear to me you had expectations that were not reasonable to how any courier works

When does Amazon say it should be delivered?

...just because you happen to be near the depot doesn't mean that you get priority service. If it is on a 48hr delivery it won't go out the next day (unless the driver chooses to for his convenience!)

I don't know whether the unit in Livingston is a Depot, Service Centre or Hub, but I was very pleasantly surprised recently; given previous issues, with a Yodel Delivery that arrived within 24 hours.

It was interesting to follow the tracking of the parcel as if I had gone to Tilbury in Essex to collect it would have been ~48 miles.
The parcel went to their Basildon depot; then up to Wednesbury (150 miles) then came back down (probably the same route) to the Borehamwood Depot for 114 miles then 10 miles back to us.
A total of ~290 miles and the vans must have literally passed our door several times, but it must make logistical and economic sense to Yodel as to where they have their depots / hubs ……………………………… and for me; it did not delay the parcel at all. :)

But as indicated above, delays can occur or it could be that maybe Amazon paid for a slower service?

amazon logistics is worse!!! (didnt think that was possible)

No I did not

I paid for a next day AM delivery, they did not meet that target

Would have been much better is you had "cannot be arsed to continue to discuss this" right from the get go and not bother commenting at all

Please read the thread, I have already stated they missed there AM delivery target (post 10)

Its really annoying when that happens. I find DPD are the best that i have come across and UPS. Yodel have not got a very good name

It is a bloody nightmare

My parcel is still showing as sitting at my local facility with no movement being tracked since it's arrival there at 09:26 yesterday morning

Well come lunchtime there was still no sign of movement on the tracking page so I gave Amazon a call who in turn poked Yodel

Just over an hour later my package was delivered

to be fair they delivered my parcel in 24 rather than 48 hours in the end so it arrived on time. hopefully as a result of grief via twitter.

spoke to reception who said they never saw any yodel van outside all day tuesday.

Must be right if it's obtained online

A lot of the Yodel drivers are self employed so probabply a plain white van that delivered your parcel,

So by your logic, assuming your attempting to make some sort of point everything found on the internet is wrong then? Guess if that's the case your assertion is incorrect to, oh wait your wrong about saying everything is wrong...now even I'm confused what point were you trying to make again

And again, in English?

I suspect it takes time to fully integrate a new central hub into their network. If they only aquired the building in June they have to do quite a lot of work to fully commission sugh a premises.

Yes, Yodel screwed up your delivery, no question about that. Although I'm sure it should still have made it to you on time going via Oldham.

If the guy I saw earlier is an example it's not surprising they don't make their deadlines.
Parked in someone's drive, they were out, so he tried 3 neighbours, two didn't answer, 3rd refused to accept it,
told him which house to go to, right opposite where he was, so what does he do, dumps it on the doorstep having
wasted all that time.
Suppose you have to give him credit for trying
