If anyone is interested, I just ordered off Amazon and they are doing a 1 month free trial of 'Free One Day Delivery'. (Amazon Prime)
You can cancel the trial before the month ends and you wont be charged the £49 per year membership
Not sure how long this has been going on for but it was new to me so hopefully new to others

I find things from them often come next day anyway.
I was caught out by the last thing with expected delivery 3 to 5 days and wasn't in for the courier 24 hours after ordering.
 
your right, Amazon are normally pretty good for delivery. When I was working in Greece (on an island too), I ordered a new camera and it was there within a week
 
The Amazon Prime trial is there for anyone that's not already burned a trial month, but if you do use it there's a preiodic reset. I used a trial month in December 2010 and I noticed a month or two ago that I had a months trial being offered again. Worth using if you're placing a few orders, or if you've a few orders you need before a set date. I imagine the take-up of the trial is very popular November-December with lots of immediate cancellations.

The first trial I used you could start the trial, cancel immediately and you had the full month of Amazon Prime and no chance of forgetting to cancel at the end and getting billed.
 
i used it last Dec for xmas deliveries and then cancelled it as don't buy that much from them month to month.....

was perfect for what I needed, but make sure you cancel in time......
