Ok I've ordered a new Canon 85mm from Amazon to replace my broken one. I chose expedited delivery in the hope that they won't use Royal Mail as my postman, despite complaints, THROWS parcels into my porch from next door to avoid having to walk down my driveway! Has anyone used expediated delivery and did they use RM? If my normal postie delivers it no doubt the d*ck will smash it...

Bought a few things lately from Amazon whilst on the prime trial so guaranteed next day delivery

None came by Royal Mail, mostly HDNL or Yodel, not impressed by the latter having left a book out in the pouring rain (yes it was raining when they delivered)

Funnily enough my daughters pressie was left in the pouring rain too - left it on top of an empty (and dry inside) bin... daft couriers!

I use amazon prime ie next day and they use a mixture of delivery firms including Royal Mail, if you order late in the day, but obviously check the cut off times, the stuff tends to get sent by courier or special delivery so you might like to try ordering late in the day.

Amazon, via one of their rubbish couriers left camera bag outside my back door in two day's pouring rain earlier this year. (We were away from home at the time). They never even left a card in the letterbox so it was only by good fortune that I went out of my rarely used back door and found it. It was of course soaking wet. I didn't bother to ask for a replacement, but fair's fair Amazon refunded my money before they had received the returned ruined one.

I never understand why such an organisation uses such useless couriers.

I'm sure you can have a pretty good guess though, the words peanuts and monkeys are a clue

I hear what you are saying, but how much is a reputation worth? There seems little but bad news with Yodel.

There is a system that uses local businesses that open until late that seems to work well for me. This has got to be the model where you get an email or SMS message letting you know when your parcel has arrived at the local point. You then go get it.

But can anyone tell me if "expedited" still means RM???

You are in a lottery what they use, it be can Parcel Force, First class next day, Yodel, HDNL or UPS even.

All you know is that it will come next day.

Fingers crossed then...

My rule is that send all small parcels that can fit through the letter box that is cheap to home (less likely send via UPS and require a signature).

So stuff like Memory cards, CDs I get it send home.

Stuff that are larger, more expensive, they tend to send via methods that require a signature, so I get them sent to work.

I have had Amazon Prime for about 3 years now, I have experienced all sorts of methods used by them and that is the way make use of it.

Most stuff I get from amazon comes via post which is fine by me as our posties are great. I've had an hdnl courier leave a mobile phone inside my rubbish bin before now and when I queried about non delivery was told it was in my non existant greenhouse, only found it by luck as I was putting the rubbish out.

Not an answer to your question but if you have a problem with your RM postman get on to their site and complain - every single time it happens. Eventually a senior manager will notice and action will be taken.

Pity you can't choose the carrier on Amazon. Just had a right pain with an order delivered via Yodel.

Day 1 (day the order should arrive): Tried to deliver to the wrong place, and left a card at wrong address
Day 2: Attempted again, never came, but on there website it said it had been delivered, spoke to CS, they said my parcel was a "assumed delivery", they use this a lot apparently (especially at Xmas time), but CS could still see it was at the warehouse.
Day 3: Parcel came late in the afternoon.

Yodel/HDNL are just sooooo crap, if it comes via Royal Mail, I don't have any problems. Hope your parcel is via Royal Mail.

Yeah I have done, I even included photos of the damage caused by him throwing it, despite the fact the packaging had 'FRAGILE' written on it in large red letters, grrrr!! Then they said they would "have words with him about leaving parcels in the porch"! I had to reply that I don't mind him leaving them there (rather that than a trip the next day to the depot) it's the throwing and breaking I'm complaining about! He still does it so next time he does it and I'm around I'm going to try a more direct and less subtle approach...

I'm fortunate in that all the couriers Amazon use seem to provide excellent service in my area (touch wood), especially DPD which give an hour windw for delivery. If you're having problems though and you don't live in Arsend, Amazon do provide Pickup locations where some items can be delivered to a local shop/garage.

edited to add: as soon as you receive your dispatch email from Amazon it should tell you what the delivery method is...if it's your postie could you not lie in wait ready to catch? :)

I'd heard that things had improved and they were only throwing underarm nowadays...
