Hi guys/gals

Received an email this morning from Amazon stating that my two Lightroom 2 books have been dispatched today :woot:...says estimated delivery date is 4 October :gag:

Is this generally an accurate date or do the items appear on the doorstep a lot quicker than this, as a rule?

Thanks :woot:

Some things I have ordered arrived well before the date advised and other stuff a couple of days later, depends on where its coming from and I suspect the postage type that you select, I never pick express delivery so I would have expected all my stuff to have taken longer.

Sorry, the free super saver delivery option and the email advises that the books are being sent by Royal Mail.

This is the first time I've shopped with them; the prices were too good to ignore, as the likes of Waterstone's and Borders will be charging full RRP ie. 1 US$=£1 and they don't even have these books in stock at the moment..

I get stuff delivered all the way up to Shetland with amazon super saver and it usually arrives a couple of days before the estimated date. You should get them pretty soon unless you live further north than me (Muckle Flugga lighthouse perhaps?)

I tend to find that the goods definitely arrive by the time that they say but often a day or so earlier as long as it is directly from Amazon and not one of the other sellers. If it is one of their other sellers then the delivery time is extremely variable and there are also some distinctly dodgy people on there as well.

Once they have sent you a note saying that they have been despatched they usually arrive pretty quickly. If they have sent them by 1st class you should get them Mon or Tues but if they sent them 2nd class they wont arrive until next Friday as I've come to the conclusion that anything sent 2nd class is held at the post office until 5 days have passed. Another great place to get books is the Book Depository. They are an Amazon Market Place Seller but can also be reached directly. http://www.thebookdepository.co.uk/ I've had some really good Photoshop and Photography books from them and the prices are really good.

For today read tomorrow (Monday) and then add on up to 5 days for free delivery ....:)

Which Lightroom books did you decide on and why?

Decided on these:-

http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/0321555600

and

http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/0321555562

I like Scott Kelby - the way he puts things across resonates with me, he has IMHO very viable workflow ideas which I also like, and I think this book with the Classroom within a book book, will be the best combo for me to get the most out of LR2.

The latter has extensive exercises which are very useful in confirming that the relevant info has go in one ear and stayed from going out the other

For me, I've found this is the best way I learn things such as computer programs etc.

Thanks for the info about delivery etc. I'm guessing then that they will be sent 2nd class..

The books were defo ordered direct from Amazon. There are some copies in the marketplace, but are only £2.50 cheaper (per book), according to www.nexttag.com.

There's dodgy people on every selling site. I get a worse gut feeling about marketplace than Ebay (only 35 transactions in 3 years and never sell on there), and I guess the best thing to do is buy from a very well established seller who has sold a large range of stuff, price wise. Doesn't stop me being very careful, but only tend to buy from Kerso photography stuff wise..

Crikes, the amount of money I've saved buying from him...:woot:

Time was when you'd get something from Adobe with the software. Now its extra...:suspect:

Remember getting a brief start up booklet with Elements 4, but was very basic..just barely enough to open the program etc. so they were never anything advanced which went over all the editing software's features like these books..

Better than nothing I guess, but yep, they've now stopped doing them but include a help tab (I think )

Books arrived this morning about 20 minutes ago, luckily I saw the postman walking away, having left a card saying the package was too big to fit in letterbox. Didn't hear a knock on the door, just heard the letters going through :bonk:

Anyway, books are in superb condition and the Classroom in a Book book features a CD-ROM with 13 lessons...

3 working days, all in all...not bad as the estimated delivery date was Saturday :woot:
