We're proud and excited to announce that Dpreview has been acquired by the worlds leading online retailer, Amazon.com. Started as hobby site in 1998, dpreview.com has grown to be the number one destination for anyone interested in digital cameras and digital photography. Each month dpreview.com has seven million unique visitors (over 22 million sessions) who read over 120 million pages. "We've worked very hard over the last eight years to deliver consistently high quality content to our readers", founder Phil Askey said. "It will be fantastic to be able to expand and build on that without compromising our quality or independence. With the support and resources of Amazon we can achieve this."

That makes perfect sense. Its like Currys buying Practical Photography....

seven million unique visitors

Every one of which has an interest in photography and may be considering buying one.

Hay we are in the age of web 2.0. Dpreview is a prime target for this kind of development (due to the size of the community), so if Amazon was in the market for a photo site, this move would make sense.

Oh yeah I'm sure it makes perfect business sense linking the most popular review site going to the most popular shopping site. But personally meh. I just hope it doesn't get integrated into Amazon as a tab.

Bearing in mind that Amazon own IMDb it does not really seem that strange that they would be interested in dpreview

Michael.

It will be interesting to see whether there is any bias from thedpreview site on where to obtain equip from as I would expect the Amazon link to feature a little more heavily and prominently in the web pages. I would not think that the site was bought for any other reason that what a great place to show off your wares than linking it to one of the top review sites.....cynical....hell yes!!!!!
