Am I so far out of step with society?

I've just seen a story where people are queuing up in the cold early mornings outside Aldi stores, and then jostling each other once inside, to get a couple of cans of an energy drink made by a couple of YouTubers. Wtf! Am I missing something? Are people buying it to drink, or selling it on?

It seems the going rate on the black market is £16, locally at least. (£2 normally)
I'd never heard of it until recently, when people were complaining they couldn't get it anywhere.

It seems its not even an energy drink, but a hydration drink..
It just goes to show the "Power" these so called influencers can have on the younger generation if they can hype up bottles of coconut water
to this extent.

Generally, like most YouTubers, I think the aim is to initially entertain and/or inform, but at a certain point, for some of them, once they have a large enough following, anything goes with regards to making money. You can only 'influence' if people watch.

To get people get off their a***s to queue, never mind buy, takes some skill I guess. To get them to buy something as ubiquitous as an energy drink is what has astonished me.

I think it would be 50/50 as to whether I would cross the road to say hello to some of the YT channels I subscribe to.
