Perhaps the truth:

"The new VW Tiguan. For people who's standard of driving is so poor that they need a BIG car to feel protected them from their own incompetence, or arrogant psychotic maniacs who like to intimidate other motorists.
Disclaimer: Farmers need not apply as parking on the pavement is about the off road limit of this vehicle."

Not all adverts tell lies though, the new Renault advert clearly shows that they throw a load of components (many of them already duff) at a car and whatever sticks you keep.

Peugeot make no bones about the fact their sat-nav can't find Glasgow.

Citroen have 'fessed up that they can sell you a car ugly enough to be German but with Citroen reliability.

Honda's famous Cog advert is a perfect case in point. They copied it off someone else, which encapsulates everything we know about Japanese automotive design.

Obviously BMW haven't followed suit or they would have had to call it the new Maxi. :thinking:

The power of advertising amazes me. You know there are people out there who think the Audi Quattro was a good rally car. Amazing.
 
In a similar vein though... why the **** did Nissan decide to call one of their 4x4 vehicles a Murano?

Murano is a chain of islands in the Venetian lagoon. There aren't many streets - it's mostly pedestrians only, as is much of Venice - and I can't think of a single more inappropriate place in the entire world to want to take a 4x4.

What on earth were they on when they came up with that name?? What did they think they were trying to convey??

Please don't lump everyone together. Many need 4x4s and 4x4's are some of the greenest motors you can buy (taking into account the full-life of the motor).

I have three 4x4's and live in the country. I also have to go into town sometimes so does this change me into some sort of monster once I hit the suburbs?
 
During my many years in the motor trade I did a stint at a 4x4 specialist.
I've seen them all, right from "Wreckit Beckett" who bought a LWB 2-1/4 Petrol in 1976, hitched up his pig trailer and never disconnected it again till it pulled the rear x-member off 12 years later. To the guy who owned the local mobile phone shop who had a LWB Safari to which we fitted a V8 from a P6, high ratio diffs from two Rover 110's and a Fairey overdrive. It would cruise at 70 all day returning 25mpg. We even had a guy with an ex military lightweight who eventually got locked up for running around his garden dressed in combats, firing live rounds and throwing live hand grenades around!

I wouldn't suggest for one minute that all 4x4 drivers fit into the two catagories above but you can tell everything you need to know about a person by what car they drive ;)
 
It's only 9" longer and 2" wider than a Golf. Not that big really.

Because that's where they do the school run - didn't you know that most schools are in green fields and you have to cross a Ford in the road to get to them ? :D

you need the 4x4 to park on the pavement when you pick the kids up.. you arent allowed to park on the yellow area on the road.
