Alternative to cutting head off tripod?

Hi

Currently, we are buying a tripod, extending the main head up and then cutting this off. We then drill holes through this stem to bolt to a frame.

This seems crazy to me, ideally, I would like something with a dovetail mount, we need to adjust the camera position, same as the tripod head allowed us to do.

Anyone aware of any alternatives?

I think I have lost the plot.......just what is the question? As I have no idea just what your intention is by your diy and indeed why DIY it???

To answer your first question just buy a short replacement central colum ,you get get a manfrotto but you will need a manfrotto head.
Have a look on the manfrotto Web site
You would do a bit better if you explained what you are doing so people can make suggestions

I presume this is to make something along the lines of a hide clamp I tried making one ,but in all honesty it’s easier to go on e.bay and buy a proper one

Alternative is to buy the right tripod.
