Just had a scare... my sound card stopped working all of a sudden. When I tried to reinstall the drivers, it wouldn't let me. Then I rebooted, and then I couldn't log in to Windows!

Safe mode didn't work!

Safe mode with command prompt didn't work either!

Tried all sorts - and was on the virge of opening up the case and pulling out the sound card and the WiFi card when I thought I'd give it one last go. And suddenly, I'm back in. The sound is working. The WiFi is working.

:suspect:

Backing up data and photos as we speak to my two external drives.

Agreed though, Macs are not the same since they started with the Intel processors...

:) PC is still working fine this morning. Don't know what happened, but it's working.

Well done.... the mysteries abound in the world of Bill Gates! :)

All computers are a PITA most of the time..... now UNIX, such an UNFORGIVING system ... one false move and yer Dead (big time)!

Kamion, I reckon you got a loose sprocket... give it a thump and you'll be fine! :bonk:

hmm. Looks like my woe is not over yet. "Repaired" my Windows using the Windows installer. Seems ok so far after 2 restarts. Except it's taking quite a bit longer in "Please wait while Windows is starting" stage. I suspect my HDD is slowly dying, hence corrupted drivers and such. Gonna stop restarting my PC if I can help it to see how long it lasts.

Do you maybe have one of them new Macs with the Intel bits?

:D :D :D

Must be the season for dodgy PCs. My sister-in-law's 7 year old PC went kaput yesterday so she went out and bought a nice new one from PCWorld.

She came to install her ADSL and realised that in all the years she'd been with Tesco.net, she'd never written down her ADSL username and password anywhere. Cue a 50p/min call to tech support :bang:

I hate PC's - definately wouldn't want to chance one of the Intel mac's though - destroys the whole point IMO :cuckoo:
I have owned sooo many PC's & every single one has died on me on more occasions than I care to remember (shudder!!) - I do understand that some of the time this was user error - but I'm not too happy about the need to know the internal workings of a PC before you can competently keep one turned on :embarrassed:
I may have slightly been babbling on a bit there just so my sig would show up :p

I heard that when Macs fall over, you have to bring it back to the shop. Which is worse imho. :P

I seriously doubt wether there is half a grain of truth in this BUT how many times did your PC's tower case fall over??

:suspect:

:D

BTW if the answer to the question is a number greater than 0 you might just be one of those people who should not own a computer of any sort...

i do and it's just refused to turn off so i had to force it. i wonder if leopard will be better for it, maybe it'll even allow me to change my screensaver again!

Sorry cannot really advise here as I am still drooling about owning a Mac...

These reports now make me think twice though:suspect:

By the way you are 1 away from post # 1000:thumbs:
