Alien Skin Exposure 3 Sale

Yes, it is… but it is preset based, so one won't learn to cook! :(

so I may not be remembering it clearly.

This company has a tradition with solid software
but not going in the right direction… in my book!

Fair enough. As I recall you don't need to use presets unless you want to, but my trial was several months ago so I may not be remembering it clearly.
You are correct.
The presets are just starting points, and can be adjusted to taste.
Find a preset that is close to what you want and then fine tune it to your requirements - saves a lot of time.
Alternatively you can ignore the presets and start from scratch.
Having created a set of adjustments you like, you can then save them as your own preset.
X3 has one of the best highlight recovery algorithms that I have seen.

It looks interesting, but can't see it doing anything that Lightroom and on1 photoraw already do. What's the speed like - is it really anything like they demonstrate in the video?

I trialled it a few months ago and at one time I had it down as a possible replacement for Lightroom.
One thing that I liked was that you only had to hover over a preset to see it applied to the preview image.
It was definitely faster than On1 but it messed up the colours on one of my raw files, so it was taken off my list.
Their tech support were very helpful and I sent them a copy of the raw file that screwed up, so maybe they have done some further work on the algorithms and improved things.
I eventually purchased On1 raw, so I doubt I'll go back to X3, but I'd be interested in taking another look at it, since it's certainly a contender as a Lightroom replacement.

Thanks. I'm not really looking for a LR replacement, which is what I see this as being, although in time I'll need to upgrade since I'm using 5.7, but have no desire for CC. ATM I barely use anything outside of LR & Silver Efex.

FWIW I did download & try the software. It was OK, though clunkier to use than LR5.7, and for more serious image tweaking I prefer On1 PhotoRaw. Some of the presets were OK, but there were no 'wow, incredible look' moments.

Software now deleted.
