Ok so this is all Smoothedit's fault. he somehow managed to convice me that it was a good idea:cuckoo: Actually I've been reading some stuff from the RPS recently and it has made me realise just how narrow my focus has been for some 18 months. So it's time to cast off the blinkers and get to work on widening some horizons. I thought I could always sneakily catch up with week one and "Curved" with this one. It's a curved wall at work and that's my pic on it. Bit fo a cheat but I'll be trying to get into doing it properly each week now :)

Good to see you in here Bouncy!

Welcome Aboard Ali... Interesting shot with your shot in it :D...

Looking forward to following your 52... er.... Ms. Melons <snigger> :).

Must be great seeing a whole wall with your pic on it... a very nice one too!!

lol well, if it's anything like your crit of my last snow attempts, I'll look forward to it :)

Flat as a fart and wrong subject indeed! (except I know you are right ;))

So how long before we get Dave looking at others too?

I like this shot, if nothing else because I saw your other post about the boss not doing anything by half and it does of course fit the theme with only the smallest bit of crowbarring.

Now then, about the poetry.... :D

I like the shot because DiddyDave pointed out where you worked at the recent Manchester meet and it reminded me of a great day.

Like the first one Alib! Looking forward to the rest!:)

Now then, about the poetry.... :D

There was a young lady, a Scot,
and she liked her cameras a lot,
she went to the shop, her eyes they did pop,
and blow me she's just bought the lot!

boom boom :D

OK week 2 and poetry. This is one of my all time favourite poems and it just reminds us to take some time to appreciate the simple pleasures around us. I'd have loved to have managed to get some folks enjoying outdoors but weather and time were against me so I settled for a similar feeling indoors. This chap was sitting on the bench just watching the world go by.

But he's not looking at anything! Even the lady with the pushchair is behind the pillar. It's a great pic but for me, not the right poem for it.

Love the idea of week one though, picture of a curved picture, images within images, excellent.

 Ali.

Not sure that week 1 really is a cheat. There's a curve, you've taken the shot and it's your picture on the wall (and I REALLY like the shot you have on the wall )
Interesting shot with lots to look at. I like the way that you've framed the guy at reception and the yellow wall on the RHS adds a nice bit of colour interest.

Do you have a larger version of week 2 that you can link to?
I get the feeling that there's a lot more to see there than I can make out in the small image.
It's funny how people interpret things differently because I actually think the concept is a good take on the poem with the guy just staring into space . . . in fact if the woman with the pushchair was in his line of sight, I think it might be a bit creepy in a stalker kind of way
Would really like to see it bigger though, so I can look at more of what's going on.

A prime example of why I don't look at 52s or 365s

Sorry can't link to anything bigger, off out the door on my way to London. Back to Manchester Monday night and off to Bath on Tuesday, back again Wednesday night. I spent 6 hours yesterday doing tax returns and insurance claims.

This is why I was worried about doing even a 52 never mind a 365. I don't have time to go p***ing about! lol

Both of these have had to be shot on a compact because I've not been able to get out to take anything specific with the DSLR's. I wanted to try to find someone just being contemplative, they don't have to be staring at anything in particular, just taking time out.I also rather liked the juxstaposition of the older gent infront of the Calvin Klien shop. It makes him look a little out of place, like he is contemplating a world in which he perhaps does not fit as well as perhaps he once did. I had the sum total of 5 minutes to shoot this as I went to get my lunch! There will be weeks where I have time to shoot properly for my 52 and there will be weeks where I simply have to take what I can get.

It works for me Ali... I think having him just sitting there staring into space is a perfect fit for the poem.

Ok week three and as per usual I'm doing this last minute grrrr. I did have the idea of popping into my local hairdresser and shooting him cutting hair but didn't manage to get there! So I settled for my second choice which is slightly easier being indoors and not dependant up on being there during shop hours. My choice was wood, chopped wood, It's a log from the log basket in our front room and I wanted to cross light it to bring out the texture. Then I decided I could just about make it a macro.

So here it is, chopped.

Lovely texture of the wood on the shot Alison. The only slight thing is that my eye keeps being drawn to the dark section at the top right.

Cheers, Rob

Lovely textures Ali, the lighting works so well too

I need blooming commiting for ever agreeing to do this! ;)

I nearly went outside to get a log from the woodstore but this one was indoors and it was warm!

I even had to cancel my chiropractor appointment for the whiplash this week because I could not get there, so the chances of me getting time to shoot for this was non existant!

I wonder if I can just take a pic of the road outside on my mobile this week and see if I can possibly get any lower!

Sorry I'm only just getting round to commenting on your 52 - there are so many this year. :)

This post made me laugh out loud - I know just how you feel, but believe me you can get much, much lower than your (possible) Week 4!! I did - loads of time last year, eg 'Crowds' was a woolly bobble hat hanging from a tree in the Forest!!!

It's far too late for me to try and add to the comments already made on Weeks 1 and 2, but Week 3 - I like. I like how you've caught the grain in the light and the colours are lovely.

Hey Ali!

Sorry I missed this actual thread! Have been commenting in your original curved one!

Poetry - I LOVE the poem, what simple but powerful structure. And I really like your interpretation for the accompanying picture - it is an observation of someone watching the world go by - far too often when taking a pic I think that I need to find extraordinary - but your shot shows to me what photography is all about - capturing an immortalised slice of life!

Chopped - Love the texture but it is a smidge dark for my liking. I am suprised that more people did not go for the closeup wood! I love the textures and just how closeup you have got too!

Teehee and I like that already the challenge is stretching you and taking you out of that comfort zone!

Who is the 'smoothedit' you refer to Ali? They must be a right wotsit making you use precious free time up behind a camera rather than chillaxing from a busy schedule...

Keep them coming!

lol, you git Matt! ;)

If you call "Sunday night and I still have not done a ruddy thing" out of my comfort zone then you are bang on!

Now what on earth am i going to do this week..............and will it even be worth it? lol

 You are still a week ahead of me!
I am doing a show at the mo and trying to catchup!

Thanks Jean, this is scary because if this is how low I've managed to get in the first three weeks I fear for my own as well as your sanity for the other 49 weeks. :cuckoo:

It'd better improve that's all I'm saying :D

Lovely rich colours and textures in "chopped". - I like your side lighting.

lol I do actually have the pics and sorted them on my HD BUT.... not had the time to host them and copy links and all that carp I have to do.

Rather busy sorting things like new business cards, roller banners, website, wedding fayres, appointments with suppliers, album sourcing.........

Not even had time to get the D700 in my hand for over a week.

There are times that mixing the day job with trying to get this up and running properly leaves me utterly drained. I woke at 2am with a list of things still to do going round in my head.

Pass the Neurofen someone?
