I was thinking of trying to sell some of my images with Alamy and have come across a problem I do not understand. They have asked for uncompressed file sizes of more than 24MB. Also that I should make a JPEG file from an 8 bit TIFF file that is at least 24MB. How do I make my image to the required minimum?

There is a tutorial on the tutorials section for this.

My method is to use Lightroom to export as a jpeg with the longest side at 5000px, as on a 3:2 aspect ratio image that will produce a file of the correct size.

Don't get confused between images size and file size! JPEG is a compressed file format - your file size may well be around 8 - 12 meg but the IMAGE size would be 50 meg. BTW Alamy still prefer images of 48 meg - which gives far more selling options than a 24 meg image. What software do you use for processing?

Thank you Andrew fr pointing this out, I use elements 9 (and I am new to this)

In Elements 9 go to IMAGE > RESIZE > IMAGE SIZE and where it says 'pixel dimensions' - that is the size of your IMAGE - FILE size will be a lot smaller. If the image size is not large enough - at least 24 meg - but better at 48 meg - then you will have to interpolate the image until the file size reaches the desired size.

Thank you Andrew for making this easy for me. All Done :))

Good luck - and just keep at it - you need a lot of images up there to get decent sales results.

Out of curiosity, is it worth joining on the off chance someone might like a photo you've taken? I did get asked a couple of years ago if a picture could be used by Schmap for a section on a London map that was being updated so now wondering if it's worth attempting to meet their criteria

Schmap don't pay anything for pictures - they prey on people who want an ego trip in exchange for seeing a tiny pic in print. Don't give them anything!

Have a look at Alamy - if you have pictures that you think will sell - give it a go - just be patient - it doesn't happen overnight.

Thanks Andrew, I'll take a look later on.

I dont hold much hope, but will keep it going. Will learn from it too :)

You really do have to work at it - I have almost 3000 images on Alamy now.
