Hi there,
I have a Canon 400D with a 17-55is. I submitted an order at warehouseexpress a couple of months ago for a 70-300is (still waiting, it seems to be a very popular lens...). I have a doubt: I would use this 70-300is mostly at airshows: is the lens ok for the job? In the last days I was considering the 70-200is f4 (nearly double price) who seems to be a great lens but "only" 200mm (320 on my 400D). Would you go fo the highest mm capacity (70-300is) or what seems to be the sharpest one (70-200 f4) although "only" 200mm?
Thank you in advance for your suggestions :)

I'd be tempted to hold out for the extra length. I use a Canon 100-400 and I'd take a guess that 80%+ of my airshow shots are at over 300mm. While you could crop a 200mm shot there's no substitute for long focal length glass.

I'd say it depends... have done a few with a 300mm no problem at all, but it depends when exactly you want to take a pic of the aircraft.

They all fly plenty close enough for 300mm (remember these are quite big things), but when they are doing aerobatic displays high in the sky they are a little out of range.

Ok, thank you for the replies and suggestions. I think I will wait for the 70-300mm to arrive (come on warehouseexpress!!!) and will decide after that. In mid' july Ill be in Fairford, hopefully will take some decent pics :)
