There isn't a weight restriction for cabin baggage. As long as you can put the case in the overhead locker and get it out again without assistance, then the bag is ok.

I usually put all my heavy/fragile camera stuff in my hand luggage when I go away and have never had a problem. Sometimes it gets searched going through security but that's about it. Annoys the crap out of my girlfriend though because she had to have all my actual hand luggage stuff in her bag haha

You won't have a problem, I've always taken my camera equipment by hand luggage in a rucksack. Security is normally okay as well.

If your bag is rigid, and if that 25.3 measurement is accurate, then you could have a problem if they ask you to prove that your bag fits into their size gauge.

They probably won't - but it's a possibility.

Just come back from Rome and at either end I didn't put my cabin luggage, containing camera, lenses and tablet + other bits, in the gauge even though I knew it was within spec.

Went through all checks no problem.

When you see some of the cases on wheels that people stuff into the overheads then you wonder why my partner worries about mine so much.

Whether easyjet checks your bag seems to depend on how busy the flight is. We go up to Newcastle regularly and about 3 weeks ago a young guy with his mates was going to have to check his cabin bag and pay £40+. We left him and his unsympathetic friends as he was trying to rip the wheels off.... Other days, not so busy, no fuss. If it wont go into the measuring thingy, you are taking the chance. and that chance means your gear could end up in the hold....

Don't take the risk. You don't want the argument at the gate, and they are entitled to refuse you.

(Unless you can smile sweetly like my wife then ram the case into the holder.....to make the holder fit the case, as the welding gives way on the holder, if you push the case hard enough......"see, it fits" she says...)

;)

Looking at the sizes on the easyjet page linked above, the Peli 1510 case looks to (just) comply with their size and would hopefully be robust enough to survive in the hold if they decide that they haven't got enough space in the cabin.

Normally I put my camera and walkaround lens into the case that I'll carry it around in once I'm there, and put he whole lot inside a small case that fits the smaller easyjet size requirement if travelling with them. Next holiday I have planned, I want to take the 70-200 so that won't work and consequently I need to look for a better solution.

Easyjet seem to have changed their options slightly you used to be able to pay a tenner to get speedy boarding to make sure that your camera bag got a space in the overhead locker and wasn't put in the hold
Now you can only do this as an annual fee of about £170 which is annoying
I'm taking a smaller bag next time that will fit under the seat so they can't make me put it in the hold
A shame as I won't be able to take my laptop

Useful info re the annual fee. I had been looking into the options for Iceland flights next year and thought the Easy Jet speedy boarding might be a good option just for the peace of mind. I'll bear the change in mind - thank you.
