Hi,

I'm going to Iceland early next year on a wildlife photography trip and I'm looking for recommendations for an airline carry-on bag for my kit. Personal recommendations (i.e. you've got this bag and like it etc.) would be great.

So here's the deal -
I'll be taking 2 mirrorless bodies, Canon RF 100-500, Canon 500mm F4L and a couple of short landscape lenses and the usual bits and pieces (chargers, books etc.). I plan to put my tripod in my hold baggage.

The bag needs to be no bigger than 55x40x20cm but obviously a bit of wiggle room in this should be OK. I'm not worrying about weight at this stage, I'd rather try and just solve the physical bag problem first. Obviously the limiting factor in this is the 500 F4. I've not taken it abroad since I bought it in 2018-19 as all the wildlife trips I've done with it have been UK-based so I don't currently have a bag that would work.

Oh, and it should ideally be a bag I can source from a UK supplier.

Thanks!
Mark

Not sure you would get all that in one bag  :$

I have the Lowepro 600AW (bought from TP bout 2 years ago), plenty of room for my gripped Nikons with 500/4 FL (most recent 'F'). Plenty of room for Nikkor 80-400G plus a few more lenses and flash. There are places where you can add the tripod but by that point, you start asking questions later why my back aches trying to get up from a chair etc. If you do not use a grip, there are more choices but I think I was hampered by having to satisfy dimensions in three axes. I have had no problems on BA A320 series aircraft with this outfit.

I’m off to Canada in the summer and just bought a Lowepro Nova 200 to carry all my kit and as a carry on. Its within your size limits. In terms of capacity i’ve got a 6D plus 4 lenses including a 70-300L. I dont know the size of those RF lenses might be too much but you can check out the web to see if it’s an option.

Do a Google search as well for camera bags that will take a 500mm f4 lens and it will bring up images and you can then see what other equipment they hold. Those are two reasonably big sized lenses (especially the 500mm f4) so it'll be a big bag that takes all that and then you'll have the problem about the airline accepting it.

MPB have a large Lowepro for £77, like new, I nearly went for it until I saw it was lacking some lens dividers.

Its not Cheap but the GuruGear 30L+ is the best I have found for international travel with a long lens.
Have taken the following on multiple trips without any issues > RF400/2.8 | | 70-200 | R5 | R3 | 15-35 | Batteries | Bins

I have a Lowepro 500 AW as my ‘big bag’ and you could probably get all that in. Never had an issue flying with it, including to Iceland.
