So this a new concept of wifi that I have yet to completely understand and even after reading internet info, I’m still unsure .

I’m sure you guys will explain better , bear in mind that being a filmie and traditional darkroom tog, I am a tad slow when it comes to modern tech

Does air printing offer the ability to print files from an iPhone without requiring the wifi signal of a router?

I presently have a router, however if I could do without it :naughty:

Thanks in advance of what will undoubtedly be invaluable info ( to me at least ;))

Sort of this is from the Apple site:

AirPrint is an Apple technology that helps you create full-quality printed output without the need to download or install drivers.

With AirPrint technology, it's easy to print full-quality photos and documents from your Mac, iPhone, iPad or iPod touch without having to install additional software (drivers). AirPrint features include easy discovery, automatic media selection and enterprise-class finishing options.
AirPrint is built into most popular printer models, including the printers and print servers listed here. This information is provided by each manufacturer and is updated regularly by Apple. If your model is not listed, check with the manufacturer for more information.

This site also has a list of compatable printers: https://support.apple.com/en-gb/HT201311

(Personally I think its just magic fairy dust)

You still need wifi so still need a router

Thanks for the replies and in particular the links , which after reading, still left me unsure if I understood correctly :banghead::LOL:

Today however a neighbour took me to visit her son who has an all in one canon printer / scanner.

He has no router/ box in his home, just his iPhone.

He can scan , copy and print directly between his phone and the printer ( using a canon app).

He connected my iPhone to the printer via its direct wifi which I have to confess was a bit over my head , but then I was able to scan a document and send the digital file to myself by sms.

Tbh I was not only impressed but quite fascinated.

It’s called direct printing/ scanning and has no need for any box/ router to go between the two devices.
All it requires is a mobile phone , a compatible printer and the canon app ( presumably other companies offer similar printers)

I will most definetly be assessing my present landline and mobile contracts to see if scrapping the former one is a viable option for me.

Good luck. My canon wireless printer is a pain in the neck. Now only use it with a cable.

What printer?
I presently have an ip7250 pixma and a pro 100s both of which work fine with wifi ( from my router) .
Never had to branch them to the computer with a lead.

Perhaps you have too much distance between your router and the printer or obstacles ( walls etc) ?

Yes some printers are compatible with “direct print” but wireless through a network is preferred
