Hi Guys,

after few years of using my trusty D300, i'm finally in the market for a new Nikon body. I have decided it might be a good time to switch to full frame as well. I will use the camera for some video projects as well, therefore looking for something that can shoot a good video as well as stills. At the moment, my main choice is D610 as i don't want to break a bank and upset the boss.

Please let me know what your recommendations would be.

Thanks!

I use a Nikon D750 (maybe out your budget)

The videos files are pretty darn good.

Although it has the same excellent D4 sensor the video files are much better than the D4's.

Not too sure how the D610 would compare.

I have shot video with both the D800 or D750 so it would have to be them.

The D610 doesn't allow you to change the aperture whilst shooting if you need that.

Why must you have a FX? The D5500 or D7200 are also good and allows you to use your DX lenses from the D300. You can also grab cheap manual Nikon lenses from eBay.

The best valued video Nikon's are the D5200/D5300/D5500.

im sure i remember moving the aperture ring while shooting video on my d610 - but a lot of newer lenses are built without any aperture ring unfortunately (ie fly by wire adjustment only)

Thanks for your replies guys!

The reason i want to move to FX is simply because i was planning an upgrade to FX for quite a time now. The need for video came only recently, so i thought i would combine 2....

If your budget allows then get the D750 otherwise a second hand D800 is still a decent buy.

Have a look through this blog by Nikon to see some of them in action.

Looking for D750 or D800 at the moment. I'll update you when I have one.

I had the D800 for a good number of years and then upgraded to the D750. If you can source a decent second hand D800 then grab it otherwise order a shiny new D750 :)

Grab some vintage Nikon lenses from eBay to add to the mix.

I was thinking the same. Would rather invest in new camera then used one tbh...

What lenses would you recommend as it would be my first ff camera?

What sort of budget do you have? What sort of things will you be shooting?

D750 would be my recommendation. Amazing stills camera and has very good video features too including a flip screen which is very useful for video.

Backing the D750 too, it's much better than the D800 for video (flat profile, better DX/Super35 crop mode, auto aperture, flippy screen, 1080p/60, better noise performance).

So it is D750 plus 24-70 2.8 and few primes. Order placed today for body and lens, will let you know when it arrives and is tested ;)

Great bit of kit ordered :)

The 24-70 is brilliant and the primes will add that little bit extra.

Don't forgot to order a decent microphone.

What primes are you going for?

i'm keeping my 50mm 1.8, probably will add 20mm for shooting night sky... Didn't really have time to properly test the kit yet, just so busy with work. Managed to take few pics at friends wedding, and i must say, i am impressed, especially wit 24-70!!!!
