Nothing to lose bar a bit of time and effort uploading some images.

I get approached periodically by random people asking to use my images for books etc and this week was paid so one could be used in a car owners club magazine and this prompted me to finally get sorted on redbubble, I'm sure I won't be retiring on income but I was only selling my images for pocket money anyway....enough to buy the odd lottery ticket - now then I could retire....!

Interesting, i've ordered things from redbubble a few times and not had an issue (t shirts and stickers).

I've a few pictures up on Redbubble... It's never going to be a retirement plan - or even qualify as pocket money if I'm honest - BUT there's been at least a dozen sales over 2015 that simply wouldn't have happened if the pictures had just been sat on my hard-disk. It's actually quite strange really - the one that sells pretty consistently was something that I would never have actually thought would have (I added a wide range of things, just to see what, if any items actually sold...)

Interesting (oops repeating myself) maybe i'll think about chucking a few up myself and see what happens! I think I'd get the most interest from gig photos, but guessing I can't use those due to licensing/model release etc.

So those that have sold, have you been paid okay?

Just suspicious of a company that doesn't appear to be very good at providing a service to it's customers.

yep - every time - get a email when the sale is made, then another when the item has "gone for production", and again when it's shipped - at which point my "cut" of the sale is credited to my account, and as soon as the balance hits £13 (think that was =$20 at the time I signed up) it's automatically transferred into my paypal account balance. Did it that way as it's easier than silly little micro-payments cluttering up my proper bank account...

Excellent! Go for it I say ;)

Oh come on you can't leave us curious as to what sells better? :D

in terms of numbers of sales, it's one particular shot... the "audi rings" (theres a portrait and landscape version, so it fits different "products" better...) - for some god only knows reason people keep buying Postcards and Phone Covers of it... Lots of small value stuff, but, for something that was basically never going to earn me anything sat on my laptop's HD, it's a bonus.

In terms of money realised though, well, it only takes one spooky looking still life to catch the eye of some goth or other, who fancies a big canvas print and...

What did you have to go through to qualify to sell art on this site? Do they review your portfolio, what do you need to submit if so?

no need to search...

Nothing really - it's not like a "stock" site such as Alamy, where every submission gets vetted and so on - basically, if they were vetting technical quality of the photo - the above link would never have passed the first step... yet there's quite a few people out there with that image wrapped around their iPhones etc. so there's a market for it, despite the flaws. The thing to remember is, you're not just selling a photograph as such - you CAN restrict sales down to prints, posters and canvases, but equally, there COULD be a market for Phone Cases, Laptop Covers, Cushions, Bedspreads, Mugs et.al.

Thanks Mark @TheBigYin I did find you on Flickr to see if I could see it, damn nosy aren't I :D
It does actually look quite cool as a phone case.
I might have to check this thing out, always worth ago

to be honest, the only time my car is half way photogenic is when it's covered in snow - it hides the dirt and rust... ;)

how do you stand on copyright with that one ? It looks a bit big and single focus to qualify for derivative works (honest question , not looking for an argument)

interesting question Pete - it's not something i'd actually considered - most of my shots don't tend to have Logo's / Trademarks or such in them and it wasn't at the front of my mind at the time of uploading. I'd always considered it to be more of a photograph of the Snow than of the car, if I'm being honest - though there is the consideration that on Redbubble it's definitely more likely to appeal to Car Geeks than Snow Geeks... I think that I'm going to have to do a bit of digging on that score - and in the meantime, I'll take the shots off the marketplace. Obviously, Redbubble has it's own procedures in place regarding copyright infringements - and there's certainly not been any "takedown notices" issued as yet...

To be honest, as the whole Redbubble Selling thing is, for me at least, an exercise in being lazy and still getting SOME money for the shots, its not really worth the effort of reading through the whole morass of copyright legislation, and it may well be simply easier to just pull the shots permanently...

That's a registered trademark... pretty certain it's not a copyright issue. I've shot, and sold loads of images of cars and never had a problem.
