Am looking to go on a Safari, next year - August. I have had africansafariclub recommended to me by a co worker who went with them last year, They spent most of the time at a hotel, rather than on safari.
Example--- 5 of us 6 night safari and 8 nights at a kenyan hotel - all meals included flights also - is roughly 7k.

Lots of cash yes but anyone know of or can recommed any companies or examples of better prices.

I used to live there and unfortunatly the cheap (still wonderful) camps, are best booked at the kenyan end.
most of the booking agents here use the big named hotels and lodges etc...
last time i went i stayed at this place which will be just 2 years old and was lovely.
If you can arrange flights from the other places you will be visiting it might save you a few quid.

I've been on a number of safaris. One thing is that they are not a cheap holiday. They are worth every penny though.

When in Kenya, I did see a number of very budget organisations operating though and not in a good way. They were filling minibuses not suitable for the terrain with loads of tourists and they were leaving some with very restricted and limited views. Make sure before you book that the vehicles are suitable for the terrain, that there aren't too many of you for the car and a number of other things such as location etc.

You'll enjoy it whatever you decide to do though :D

^^

agree totally. Package deals are usually the ones that can cram you in a feww vehicles.
the indipendant camps have their own vehicles and can accomadate for the total number of guests with plenty of comfort.

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!!!!!

I used them less than 6 months ago and they were s**t, i sinply can not put it any other way than to say that. My advise is to look for somewhere else to book with, they really were that bad.

We had 2 or the 3 people in our party come down seriously ill due to food poisining (med evac'd back) and they kept running out of supplies.

I strongly recommend you look elsewhere.

On the plus side Kenya was a lovely place to visit and the people are really nice, just the company was extremly poor.

I would contact the WHF on 01233 771915 as they are in the process of setting up to run safari's and as a lot of us here will testify, if the safari's are as good as their photo days then they will be something a bit special.

Andy Porter is the chap to speak or Mark Edgerley (CEO) and say that Jeff Fox recommended them.

OK promise. Won't do it. Maybe I have sent the wrong message. I'm not just looking for anything cheaper. Just a recommended company. Its value for money, not the money!
Cheers:)

Thankyou very much for that! Will give it a go!

I honeymooned in Tanzania with CC Africa, now known as &BEYOND. If you want to see photos (not that great, sorry!), then I have a site here from the trip - just click on the days across the top.

The company were fantastic for us, though my parents stayed with them in Botswana and had a less good experience unfortunately. They're not cheap, but the quality ought to be good.

For other ideas, you might want to see my luxury travel blog - just click on the 'africa' link on the margin and it should throw up all sorts...

You might also try PM'ing Condyck on here...I'm sure he'll come up with some good advice.

I can highly recommend Somak Travel, Been with them twice, Not the cheapest, But in MHO the best. Just google there sight.

I am going for a 10 day camping safari to Tanzania in feb. Have spent months researching who's best to go with and www.basecamptanzania.com came out the best by far in terms of value for money and positive reviews. I am yet to see a negative review (if you find one let me know!) cost is 900usd pp all inclusive for the 10 days!

Dose that include the flight out there?

Still reasonable.

Sorry... one other suggestion I forgot to make... try asking on our travel forum. We have one or two members on there (johan_db, Jochen [both happen to be photographers] and one or two others) who are experienced travellers in Africa and have a number of contacts in the safari industry.
