Hey everyone,

Not quite sure if this is the appropriate thread for this topic, but I will try my luck anyways
I’m searching for a simple and cost-effective way to create room "mockups" with my pictures inside. I want to showcase how my prints could look framed in different spaces for a small online shop I’m about to set up. Nothing overly complex, just something that makes it easier for potential buyers to picture the artwork in their homes.

The issue I keep running into is that basically all the tools I’ve found are subscription-based and expensive, which feels overkill for my occasional usage. I don’t want to commit to an ongoing fee for something I’ll only use a few times a year. Does anyone know of any good alternatives?

Thanks a lot,
Dani

Hi and welcome to TP

I surmise such tools are expensive because they are aimed at the likes of Etsy, Photo4me, Fine Art America....etc.

I will watch this one as I have yet to hear of such tool/plugin

Hi Dani

I totally get where you’re coming from! I actually had a very similar experience with ArtPlacer. I tried it out for a month (was an okayish experience) but ended up canceling because I already had too many subscriptions piling up. A few months later, when I needed to showcase new images for my webshop, I didn’t want to commit to the subscription again – I started creating my own mockup rooms in Photoshop with smart objects to make everything easily adjustable. Over time, I was able to build up a collection of more than 150 rooms, and that’s when I decided to share the solution with others. I now sell the Photoshop file with all those rooms as a one-time purchase.

If you think that this might work for you, feel free to check out ArtRoomMockups. Hopefully, it’s a good fit for what you’re looking for! I would also appreciate your feedback

Best,
Christian

They look interesting:)

However, these possibly conflicting information and terms would concern me a bit?

Can I use the mockups for commercial purposes?

Yes, you are welcome to use the mockups commercially as long as you insert your own images into the mockup rooms and respect the terms of use (see legal information in the footer).

And in the "Legal" but and Terms.....

Terms of Use

The ArtRoomMockups files are provided for personal use and may not be shared with others or distributed online or offline without permission.

To the best of our knowledge, the AI-generated images and royalty-free pictures used in ArtRoomMockups can be used for commercial purposes as long as they are modified by the end user. However, since legislation changes constantly, it is the responsibility of the end user to ensure compliance with the most recent laws and regulations.

We reserve the right to modify or discontinue any aspect of the service at any time without prior notice. By using ArtRoomMockups, you agree to these terms of use.

Hi, Box Brownie!

Thanks a lot for pointing this out – I appreciate the chance to clarify :)

To break it down:

About the rooms: 95% of the rooms were created by me using software I purchased, which explicitly allows commercial use.
About the remaining 5%: These are license-free images, which also permit commercial use provided they’re modified. Since you’ll be inserting your own images into the rooms, this counts as modification, so there’s no issue with using them commercially.

The part in the terms about “personal use” refers to not re-sharing or redistributing the entire ArtRoomMockups file (either online or offline) after purchase. This protects the time, effort, and money I’ve invested in creating these files and ensures the value remains for those who purchase it ;)

I understand the AI mention in the terms might seem confusing. Therefore, I just removed that part from the Terms of Use. Hence: as long as you add your own image to the mockup room, you’re fully allowed to use the result for commercial purposes!

If you have any other questions, feedback or concerns, feel free to reach out – I’m more than happy to get back to you :)

Cheers,
Christian

Hey @Christian_M

Thanks a lot for sharing! I didn't find anything in the google search before, so I really appreciate you sharing this here! It definitely looks like a very interesting solution to me (just watched the YT video). @Box Brownie had a very fair point about the commercial usage, but I see that this has been clarified by you now, thanks!

Since your solution seems to be very fair priced in comparison to ArtPlacer and Co, I will download and test the file for sure:)

Thanks and have a great evening,
Dani

Hi Christian

I did not fully grasp the full details in post #3 i.e. that the "creations" were your products on the linked to website :headbang:

All the best :)

PS just to say I am interested but for fear of asking what might be the blindingly obvious, in regard to your ref to Photoshop.....I only have the old perpetual license version 6. Is there anything about your files that would make them only usable with the more recent versions of PS ?

Whilst I appreciate that @Christian_M is only trying to help @Dani_87 above, rather than explicitly trying to sell his product, may I draw attention to the rules about not promoting items for sale on TP commercially without requesting permission to advertise on the site, and paying for the privilege.
If (Christian) you want to sell via TP, please contact me to discuss an appropriate commercial basis for it. However I'll let the post above stay as they are explicitly helping another member solve a problem.

Does that include providing likes to other products on sites like Wex, MPB, Amazon etc.

A question was asked and a solution was provided. Hardly premeditated advertising. Isn’t this what the forum as about?

Exactly the same thing happened on another forum. A new members first post was to ask about displaying art in a webshop. And another new members first post was a link to Chritian-M’s website. That post has now been deleted.

Read my post @ecoleman . I acknowledged the purpose of Christian's post, and didn't delete it. Also Elliot, you know perfectly well that liking something or even putting a link to a bargain is allowed. I have offered Christian a means of promoting his product on TP legitimately. And @Eucris the two instances are different and likewise I offered a promotional opportunity. No need to divert the thread.

Hi, no worries!

As long as your version of Photoshop supports Smart Objects, I think everything should work. Just the speed of the "picture update time" can vary depending on your computer of course. But you can also download the file and if you're not happy with it/it doesn't work, I'll refund you the money, no problem :)

@ecoleman @Eucris Thanks a lot for your input guys!
And also thank you @lindsay for not deleting the post:)

Have a great evening,
Christian
