I'm going to be shooting a county darts match this weekend with my f2.8 tele, the only problem is i'm worried about the AF assist beam lighting up part of the stage as it's indoors and the stage is well lit but worried it might be visible and off putting to either player.
Shall i shoot Manual Focus or is there another setting i can use ?
Ta.

assuming (and I know trhats a bad plan) its well lit enough for a darts match your AF should work well enough without it

Maybe off camera flash and hope there's enough light for the AF to work without the assist beam?

Or just talk to the players and maybe demonstrate what the assist beam does?

Last resort (imo) would be manual focus.

Menu option a9 should allow you to turn AF assist on or off.

I've found out where to turn this off in the menu, i can't remember was there AF illumination on film camera's in the 80's ?
