I have dipped my toe into the mirrorless pond with a fuji XT2 and although i felt it was a more than capable camera i went back to my Nikon D810.
Now after doing a lot more research and such i am really tempted to jump right in with both feet and go for it with the upcoming Sony A7 Mk3.
In the meantime though i am tempted to purchase a used Sony A7R ii in order to get a feel for Sony Mirrorless prior to the release of the A7 iii.

Questions though.
1. Is there a great deal of difference between the A7ii and the A7R ii? Big price difference and some obvious spec differences but is the layout and menu pretty much the same?
2. Where would you recommend as the best place to buy a used one from would be? Wex have a few A7Rii around £1200 to £1300 which seems ok. I kind of want to be able to sell it on come a7 iii time and not lose too much on it. Also a warranty on their used products is reassuring
3. Is there a reliable adaptor that i could use a Sigma 150-600mm on the Sony? From what i have read thats a Big Fat NO.

Any thoughts or advice would be very welcome.

Hi,

I think the Sony A7 III represents a good step forward for Sony and mirrorless as the Price vs Performance/Feature Set is great (£1999).
I am sure a lot of Canon/Nikon users will migrate over because of the Sony A7 III.
You will have to consider the negatives like the drop in resolution compared to your Nikon D850 and weather-sealing / body ergonomics etc.

1. Yes, there is a big difference in the AF between the Sony A7II and A7R II and obviously the resolution difference too - 24mp vs 42mp. The button layout and GUI are more or less the same however the Sony A7R II can use Eye-AF in AF-C mode and has a few other benefits like silent shutter etc.
If you mean the Sony A7 III vs A7R II then there will be a massive difference both in terms of FPS and AF, I would give the A7R II a miss and buy the A7 III if I had to make a choice.

2. Harrisons, WEX, MPB all offer some form of warranty so if you decided to go secondhand they are all good options, search for the best price? Also don't rule out buying a used body off owner, as long as he/she is the original owner and has the original invoice for you, Sony will honour any warranty work.

3. I have always used native lenses and unfortunately the information I have seen online is that you can use adapted lenses but they won't always work as quick as DSLR bodies etc.
The only native options would be the Sony FE 100-400mm G Master, but this costs a whopping £2499 and then a further outlay for a TC 1.4x / 2.0x.
I have the excellent FE 70-200mm f2.8 G Master myself with a 1.4x TC.
