I've been asked to shoot a friends pilates/training studio as they're not happy with the original shots they had taken. They think they have an orange tint to them. TBH, I can't see anything wrong with the shots on the website, but I'm happy to take the job.

Can anyone else see what the problem is and how I can avoid the same 'mistakes'?

I can't see a "problem" either. There may be a slight colour cast on the shot they used on the banner but all the others actually look quite good to me! The whites are white.

The way to avoid colour shifts in shots like this is to use a grey card. Shoot one frame with the grey card in it and then shoot the rest normally. In photoshop batch process and set the white balance on the grey card in the first image. Sorted.

Other gizmo is an expodisc that allows you to take a custom reading in camera.

If they have a problem with the shots on the website I hate to say this since they are friends but what are they going to be happy with because I'm not seeing a problem with them at all. Is their monitor giving them the cast they are seeing?
 
The images seem ok on my (calibrated) monitor too. There is a slight colour cast on one or two but its minor. I wouldn't say there is an issue with any of the images.

More likely, the issue is that the monitor they are looking at the website on is not calibrated. i.e. the issue is with their monitor and not the images at all.
 
Thanks peeps. The job came through my friend who I do the occasional web design job for. He said he thought they had a tint too. I think it's the natural colour of the light with the studio colours. Saying that though I'm not going to turn down the job!

Alib, will a white card do the same job? I shoot RAW anyway. Also this will be the first time I've used flash in a situation like this. Would you go off camera here for the candid/portrait shots? Any advice gratefully recieved.
 
Personally I would not want to mix flash with the interior lights for the shots of the studio. They are both different colour temperatures and that would cause a problem in PP as one would always be wrong.

For the people, yes use flash, off camera with a softbox or brolly and colour temp for the flash as that's your primary light source.

Gotta agree with Ali (for a change LOL :D ) but shooting those interiors with flash would be a nightmare, plus the ambient light looks quite good anyway and you'd kill the rather nice atmosphere.

Just get the colour right with a custom balance and a grey card in shot just to make double sure. Keep the verticals vertical and correct any barrel distortion.

I don't think it's distortion that has distorted that guy's arm, but I hope he gets better.
 
Yes, I was only thinking flash for the people shots.

I'm really new to flash photography. What's the process for colour temping for flash? This shoot is really an opportunity to try something new and challenging and to that end I've offered to do it on the basis that they only pay if they use any shots. both parties are happy with that.

Is there a difference with CWB with a grey card as apposed to a white card?
 
Convert all shots to black and white.:D:D
