Got my first canon flash 430exIII-RT, I've been reading the instruction sheet..(I know!)

It says turn my camera to
(programme AE) or Manual and the flash is then set to ETTL,

is that right you can use
as it's not a setting I've really used.

Does it also mean if I use the flash in Av or Tv, the flash is then set up manually and not in ETTL mode?
If I read it correctly, in Av mode it's best to use HiSpeed sync when a 'fast' shutter speed is used?

Any advice on using it will be helpful ;)

Your flash will default to ETTL no matter what shooting mode you're in.

However, there are quirky behaviours that may happen in different modes, but they can be over ridden in the flash settings in the camera menu.

Cheers

I think the flash seems to have a lot of control on it without using the menu on the camera.
Coming from a Nissin Di622mkII, the canon seems to offer a lot more info on the back.... saying that.. it's twice the price lol

Canon flashes work well in ettl mode
