Thanks Peter, the main reason is. Couple of elderly relatives who are stuck on land lines, they don’t have a mobile phone and won’t ring us on our mobiles! Not really answering your question Jak, but I gave up on landlines a few years ago.
Only have my mobile now and it comes with an answer phone.
Yes, our Sky router accepts a normal landline plug.Which ISP are you with?
Some are updating routers to a model with a conventional BT style socket in the back alongside the ethernet rj45's, so you plug your existing analogue phone into it, and the router converts it to VOIP
Yes my router (Sky) has a BT style socket, so I can just plug it straight in? CoolWhich ISP are you with?

Yes, there are some handsets that can plug straight into a network connection or there's Analogue Telephone Adapters (ATAs) that allow you to plug a normal phone into them and then you plug that into a router like the Grandstream 801.umm is there such a thing? like a VOIP phone?

What router do you have ?Hi guys, with the demise of the traditional land line phone, I need a telephone/answer machine to plug into my router. I currently have a BT handset.
Any recommendations please for a replacement?
Hi Richard, I have a Sky router. What router do you have ?
BT do a wireless adapter which connects to the BT home hub.
It means you can put your phone in a different room to the home hub
