Hi folks,

Similarly to all those 'need help choosing a new lens' threads...I need help in choosing a holiday!

My wife and I are looking to go away this ywar (whatever month fits our needs criteria below) and I'd reallt appreciate some advice on what countries fit what we're looking for in a holiday.

WHAT WE LIKE;
-All inclusive
-Nice beaches with good reef to snorkel
-HOT! 30 degrees at least

WHAT WE DONT LIKE:
-Behind hassled (Egypt).

PRICE:
-No more than £1200 all in, months can be flexible depending on the right place for the right price.

Any advice appreciated :)

Hi folks,

WHAT WE DONT LIKE:
-Behind hassled (Egypt).

Do you mean being hassled or literally your behind being hassled

I don't know much about all inclusive, But I'm guessing the Tenerife and the Islands around will have something similar, Cyprus the same. I went to Tunisia on an all inclusive a long time ago which was great and you could see where Star Wars was filmed where Luke first lived etc, but my it was not hassle free.

I always recommend Corsica but not much all inclusive there, if you can find cheap easy jet flights could be in budget and really nice seas (possibly too late for this year).

Crete would fit most of that, and might Croatia, though there are no natural reefs I know of in Europe. Tourist-hassle goes with a certain kind of tourism, so it's unlikely anywhere that does all inclusive will visit serene and peaceful places, though it should be less aggressive in Greece than Egypt. There are many wonderful hassle-free places but they don't have all-inclusive holidays.

Eritrea, Syria,Somalia or Yemen, real nice places to go. Lovely weather and great coffee.

Ade.

Helpful advice welcome. Silly comments aren't.

oh come on, you ask a fairly numpty question "help me decide where to go"... and then get in a huff when something slightly witty comes along... best advice, visit your travel agent? Oh no, you don't want to pay high st prices?

Damascus is pretty sunny this time of year, might be lacking on the beaches though. However Sebastapol has lots of history and beaches.

Numpty question?! Asking the experience of others for their advice on the world.

Next time someone puts up a similar thread in the equipment section be sure to tell them it's a naff question and refer them to a camera store instead.

:)Yeah,

I find wex pretty helpful, inbiased, informed and knowledagble.

You know what mate, I think you and ade could do with showing a bit more respect.

It doesn't matter how arrogant you are - when someone asks for help, either give it to them or mind your own business.

It's bull**** that this forum consists of some people that are more concerned about trying to belittle others rather than offer the benefit of their experience.

So what if I don't have £4000 to spend on a holiday to maldives in July - did you not think to conclude that I might already know that and that's the reason I'm asking for advice?!

Your (and Ade's) attitude of 'thats a silly question I'm going to make that person feel small' stinks and in my opinion you both could do with a dose of respect.

The amount of people that come to me asking for help with weight loss is ridiculous - and in my head it's really simple...but they don't know that and I respect that.

Doesn't matter what you think abiut their question - the fact is someone is asking for help now either give it or move on.

Gordon Bennett, sense of humour failure or what.

For what its worth I dont think its a particularly numpty question but you've got to go with the flow. You'll probably get some good advice in a minute. Chill.

It's not that mate - believe me when I say I don't take life seriously.

...but Ade seems to have that attitude with me all the time and it's not appreciated.

And Lynton clearly said it was a numpty question so you can see how that is a bit offensive.

It was a joke, lighten up a bit. I have no idea ,whatsoever, where you get that from Phil.

Respect is earned, not dished out willy nilly on an internet forum. I have never met you Phil, so I have no respect, nor disrespect for you.

Phil, I know you dont like Egypt, but you should try Marsa Alam down south, not very touristy and nothing like Sharm, the reefs are very nice as they dont have as much visitors! Let me know if you want more info, Ive been there a few times

Do they do all inclusive?! Lol.

You know what, I love Egypt, the country has fantastic weather, excellent landscapes, some of the best marine life...but man whwn I went to naama bay or however it's spelt, I nearly got into a fight with a local that wouldn't accept 7 polite "no thank you" 's

I'd love more info, that's what I'm after - these little pockets of the world that inexperienced people like me wouldn't think of going to.

Cheers.

Been here 2 years in a row...

Not sure where to snorkel though

7 pools, never felt full even mid august
Sorry, I did have a look at this last night with the wife...snorkelling will be a big thing for me but I'll look into it! Based on my budget and weather expectations (30○+), when do you advise is best??

I'm always a bit apprehensive of the med because I know it's not as warm as those further countries...

I went to Coraya Beach Resort, its 10 mins form the airport by bus, which is great. The airport is very small and takes no time to get out. The hotel is in a complex of 4 hotels based around a bay that you can snorkel in, there is a dive shop on site, a small water park and a few activities on the beach. You can take various trips, but we found enough to do in the complex really to keep us amused. The bay had dolphins in one evening, there was loads of life under the walk way to the dive platform and the sunsets were great!

I find with Egyptians that they are fine in the hotels etc, its just when you venture out into the public arena. I went with 2 children under 5 and they treated the kids like royalty.

I think they only fly to this airport on Wednesdays, they do inclusive and I think this hotel is adults only now

Hope that helps

Again Egypt, but take a look at Makadi Bay. It's about 30 minutes south of Hurghada, but is a purpose built resort so no mithering. Not exactly traditional Egypt, but has the all inclusive you want, guaranteed weather and the bay has a small amount of snorkelling, and Emperor Divers have now relocated to a couple of minutes away so you will get the option of excellent boat trips dedicated to snorkelling

That sounds perfect!!

So the said resort is the one you're referring to as the all inclusive and adults only (you think) now?

Thanks a lot, going to check out this place mentioned since it sounds ideal but perhaps a different location to sharm is the one...

We had around 39 degrees all day every day the first year and mid 30s last year.

Yes, when I was there in Dec 2012, they said it was going to change to adults only in May 2013, I would consider going to the other hotels on the complex if I was looking at a holiday now

There are plenty of other hotels in that area, I can find out from friends where they stayed as I have not heard any bad things to say about it down there.

You also have the dolphin snorkel trip down there that you can do and the dugong area, you may as well learn to dive whilst there :)

Wow! Just checked on trip advisor!

This is where I want to go!

A bit out of budget but will have a shop around or maybe stretch the budget.

You wont be dissappointed!!!!

If you want any other info let me know

I'll take Lee's Coraya and raise you a 'Premier Le Reve' if you can get in! Awesome place, never seen an Egyptian hotel like it. Nothing to walk to though, you are hotel based or organised trip out. Very good snorkelling from the beach obviously!
